    Bar end removal

Have I mentioned lately that I really suck at working on motorcycles?

I bought my R1 with 1 stock bar end and one anti-vibration one. I am trying to install the anti-vibration one on the other side to make a matched set, but I can figure out how to remove in innards of the clip-on so I can install it. Here's some pics:

    Anybody?

Thanks homie, I appreciate it If I get stuck, I might take you up on that.....

I'll probably go out and buy two new bar ends, since the rubber stopper on the one that was already installed was pretty violated, and I dont like how it seated.

I'm thinking I might hit it with some penetrating oil, and drill out some of the rubber.

The outer sleeve looks to be a press fit into the bar end. Soak it with penetrating oil, find a socket or short piece of tubing with good square cuts on the end that has an ID a little bigger than the ID of the bar, a fender washer, and a bolt long enough to reach through the washer, socket, and engage a good number of threads into the bar end. You are putting together a crude puller. As you tighten the bolt, it should draw the old bushing out. If this doesn't work, it will need to come out in pieces.

Drill as many holes in the rubber as you can, rip the center out, and then use a hacksaw blade to cut slots into the outer sleeve.

    Good Luck...

I ended up drilling aout 8 holes all the way around the steel inset the bolt threaded into, and ripping the whole mess out. It was a pain in the ass.

They may indeed be squidly, but they do a wonderful job of dampning some of the vibration - which I found out after riding the bike with one stock one, and one "squidly" one.

So I'm not the only one who brings tools back to Sears in pieces. I usually just shrug my shoulders and smile when they ask me how it happened...

    Re: Torque those Fockers..............

Its sort of a staged photo.
They are round head Hex / Allen socket 8mm caliper carrier bolts needed to be removed to get the rotor out.
The center allen part: rusted and stripped, so the bolt extractors were used and the bar is an extension to make undoing a simple thing.
