Interested in becoming an MSF RiderCoach?

Just got an email from Joe Proia, owner of Ironstone Ventures.
This is my third season coaching for him. It's a lotta fun and a few extra bucks in my pocket doesn't hurt, either

Let me know if you'd like the form or have any q's.

I'm under the assumption that this is for employment specifically with Ironstone Ventures but talk to Joe if you're interested in employment elsewhere. Just let me know if you want his email address.

Thanks for your interest in becoming a RiderCoach

Below is an application that I would ask you to fill out as best you can.
I have delayed in responding due to many RMV planning delays; however, I am moving forward towards a training class/workshop in late Feb/March 2012.

We ask that you complete/retake the basic rider course before 2011 season's end (at no cost to you).
Then I ask that you "shadow" an instructor/coach for one weekend/complete course. Finally, I would ask you to spend a weekend helping setup exercises with a coach during a basic course. All of these experiences will help you determine "if this for you" as well as help you prepare for the workshop.

The workshop will require some initial weekend meetings (TBA), probably late Nov for course info, then mid-Jan to hand out materials. Official workshop will be held on weekends, with the exception being a required Friday on the last weekend, which will be student teaching.

At the moment I am suggesting the following dates:
    Sun 13 Nov 12p - orientation
    Sun 8 Jan 12p - material and homestudy handout Sat/Sun 25,26 Feb 8a-5p - workshop Sat/Sun 3,4 March 8a-5p - workshop Sat/Sun 10,11 March 8a-5p - workshop Fr/Sa/Su 16,17,18 March 8a-5pm workshop/student teaching/beginning of training season.

    The cost/commitment is $500, non-refundable (due by 1 Jan 2012)

I'm sure you have many questions, please feel free to contact me as they arise.
    Thanks
    Joe

I always thought about doing this... It probably depends on the company running the classes, but this seems pretty basic to becoming an instructor.

    Good info!

Re: Interested in becoming an MSF RiderCoach?

I'd totally be into this... But to pay $500 to go to work part time seems kind of ridiculous. Is there any reimbursement, and how many weekends would it take to recoup my investment?

Ps, I still blame you, Degsy, for all my addiction problems.

    Are RiderCoaches = Instructors?

I always thought that they were more like range hands...

Yup. "RiderCoach" is the MSF term for an instructor.

Will piles of $20's and near-obscene admiration from college girls (mainly, ones who resemble our favorite pole-vaulter) rain down upon me?

Or is it more for the personal satisfaction? I can probably justify either.

No 20's, but I usually get at least one set of ta-tas per class to check out.

It's extremely rewarding though, to see the smiles on people's faces having gone from never ridden to soon-to-be licensed rider upon completion of the course and the progression they made along the way.

There was one award winning rack last weekend on a Nighthawk. Yowza. Great gal, too.

16 years later and its still a good gig.

Just make sure to get the rain waiver. I see storms coming and a quick reminder to the company and I'm home nice and dry.

Once a RiderCoach, you can get cleared to teach the course in just about any state once you find employment and they clear you to work.

Guys this is really a great gig. Pete is right. Teaching people the beginning stages of motorcycling and seeing them apply the skills and knowledge learned is a great feeling. Well worth the $500. If anyone has any questions about becoming a rider coach in ct feel free to pm me.

Was thinking about this a long time ago, but no spots were available. Maybe it's time.

Do you have to own a streetbike to do the teaching? I was planning on being track-only next year.

I believe it's a requirement to own an ride a "street bike" but maybe a "street bike" that's ridden track only bike would suffice?

My understanding is that it must be registered. This year at the update we had to provide our registration numbers.

On my 6th year of coaching. It's a big investment of your time but it's very well worth it.

I typically do 4-5 classes a year. Less than one weekend a month during the season.
