Just sent my check in for this. Anyone else doing it?
Would this qualify for the Connecticut Riding Instructor ?

Most states offer some reciprocity for RiderCoaches tm but usually require an interview and a weekend or two shadowing so you understand the local program. I trained in NH and taught in both MA and NH, but now just MA. I met a RC last weekend who teaches in MA, VT, and CT.

In CT a site manager sponsors you to go to the class. So it is free. But you have to attend a few classes beforehand and get to know the program and the site manager. But you could always range aide the classes and get paid to do it, while learning about the class and if it's for you.

I paid to take the class.
You have to pay to all sorts of training to get this or that job. e.g. Dr. Lawyer, x-ray technician.
Though, sometimes sites do sponsor you, but what if they do and you wash out as an instructor? This isn't an easy job, the hours are long, about 20 hours or more in some weekends and it can be super hot, or raining or very cold.
Also, this job is NOT about riding motorcycles You can be an average rider and be a great coach and it's very easy to be a great rider and a lousy coach. It's about managing effective communication and being calm and patient.
Everyone does it for their own reasons. The rate of pay for the work isn't bad, it does make you a better rider, I personally have a lot of fun with students, it makes you more credible in the riding community. After two years I am very glad I did this.
Me: "Normal people wouldn't do this."
Peter: "First you have to operationalize with normal is."
Well said.
Smutty, in response to the "paying for the training" bit... Would I rather have gotten the training for free? Sure... Could I have done it differently so I wouldn't have had to pay? Yeah, if I wanted to go out of my way to travel further and have a tougher training schedule.... But it's not like the cost is all that much when compared to the money you make once you start teaching classes.
You can look at it two ways: either it was like paying for a college course to get a raise at work, or I tought a class & 1/2 for free. No big deal.

I had to pay. I was under the impression I was getting my $500 back at the end of training once successful. I didn't Get it back but I know some coaches did
The training course I did in Mass was VERY tough. We had 2 drop out.
I echo the thoughts on being a good rider and poor coach. Your riding ability is not linked exclusively to how good a coach you are.
I have things to work on with my coaching. It's a constant learning curve. I have been coaching for 5 years now and I'm responsible for a few of my students being members here.
