I just use a tie down, theres a way I was shown that basically hooks it in anyway.

a tie down to keep the tailgate up or is it down and the bike just strapped in?

Well the bikes obviously strapped in, but then use a seperate tie down to keep the bed angled up, essentially the same angle that device gives you, I just like the idea of things not sliding out

awesome, I already have 4 I guess I'll have to just put it in and see where the straps best fit. I just got an '02 Dakota quad cab so it only has the 5'3'' bed, but the tailgate adds another 18" when down.

I doubt youll be able to even pull the tailgate up at all then. I have a 6 foot bed on my ram and I can only get it up to about a 30 degree angle before it hits the tire.

do you think i should get on of those cage looking bed extenders? my other option would be a trailer, but i don't want to deal with another registration.

Just leave the bed done, strap it in good
    Plenty of people do it.
The bed extenders might not work, Dan (Mongoose) got one for his ridgeline, but the tire sticks just far enough over the back that he cant even use the extender.

I'd say my bed is about the same size as a ridgeline. Thanks for the advice, see you around.

you could just leave the gate down, your bikes not going anywhere. put all your other junk in the cab.
