Benelli, bitches

Anyone have insight into the Benelli line of bikes? I know that Chinese money is behind it...but that the bikes are still Italian. I'm curious about the track record/maintenance schedule/performance...anything else of interest? They have a rear shock by Extreme Technology...never heard of it before. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Eastern Cycle has had a few of them for YEARS now. Nobody is buying them, and they keep slashing the price. That must mean something.

I don't think I have ever seen a (new) Benelli on the road. The Tre's looks blew me away the first time I saw it on display and gave me some second thoughts about my Speed Triple. Even if it had been available when I bought my Triple, I certainly would have passed given the lack of any recent build history and the high price tag for what is essentially the bastard child of a Speed Triple and a Monster (although now you would say closer in lineage to the Streetfighter).

I still love the looks of it though.

I rode the eastern demo for a long test ride.

It's an awesome triple motor, torque-y!!! Really smooth. I was surprised by the low rev limiter and peak power achieved pretty low and drops off well before redline.

Riding position is awesome, just enough lean fwd to manage air flow on the highway, but still really comfy. Seat is good.

Handling is really neutral, very very stable leaned over. Steering radius is somewhere between a ducait SBK and a jap bike.

Fuel injection needs some getting used to. on / off throttle is really really twitchy, kinda fun at the beginning, but annoying when the pavement gets twisty and bumpy.

I read in one of the brit bike mags that the Chinese are contributing the $$, sharing cost saving techniques, and engineering/manufacturing processes. But.... that the bikes are all Italian even the entire management is still 100% Italian as referenced by the electrical gremlins mentioned above and the sick looks of the bikes! That being said they also mentioned that the bikes can be bought for much much less than new and for what you get IF you get a good one youll get a torque filled triple and a very unique bike...

I'll stick with my Speed Triple though, I like known quantities....

FUN but only in short bursts ... no day trips on this bike ... great sound, torque, and needs little mods to make it sweeeet.

Red streak out in Marlboro is also a dealer that offers demo rides (iirc) Rob is cool. He offered up his yellow 1098 as a demo ride to anyone seriously going to buy a Benelli.

If you want unique .... there it is .... if you want security in the company to support your 15k dollar bike .... ummmm buy a Duc. just seems toooo risky for all that uniqueness.

I also took one for a test ride and agree with Qfactor nice motor and comfy. Have also heard of reliability issues and have yet to see one on the road.

I vote against. They do have a bit of a cool factor being scarce, but I think they are ugly as hell, and 3 cyl motorcycles are just wrong....all wrong.

What I needed was a happy new year wish. Seems as though that's more scarce than a Benelli.
