I think I found our problem Pigman: vastly different definitions of the word 'cheap'. North of $3k for a 10+ year old, generation plus out of date motorcycle is not what I consider exceptional value. I can get a clean, late model SV or Ninja 650 for that kinda money.

Although the last two in your first list aren't bad. The OP is in Boston, which makes the salvage a tricky situation, I think. But much more in-line with where I think these things should be priced.

That exhaust on the FZ6 is starting to pique my interest. Does your ass catch fire in the summer? How's it sound? My GS sounded like a cranked up lawnmower, so I was thinkig about doing an exhaust mod on whatever I got to make up for lost time. I assume that would be tough with the FZ but if it sounds fine to begin with, I probably wouldnt mind.

Stock, IMO the Fz6 sounds like most every other I4 600. Mine is stock and I don't plan on changing it. Aftermarket pipes sound & look great (you can probably youtube videos). The way the exhaust is routed, I don't feel any excess heat on my fanny. The GF has complained about the heat on the rear seat, but only in traffic.

Slip ons for the FZ6 can be pretty expensive because of the dual cans.
No issues with the heat though. Never even gave it a second thought in the 20k miles I put on my FZ. The plastic heat shield works well, I had all sorts of straps up against them and never had an issue.

    Re: New Bike

Seriously, the FZ6 seems like a fine, fine bit of motorcycle. Although I don't understand how one could be gaga over it, yet repulsed by the Suzuki equivalent (the Bandit 600/650, now GSX650F). Especially since it went watercooled (wiki says 2005). Suzukis are good value. I keep swearing I am done with them.. then I get another one.

I got a bike you might want to look at. I'll make it a real deal, if I can sell soon.
Think its engine setup is fine for starters... its got enough low end to satisfy on the
street yet has enough top end power to grow into.

Thanks Aki- why the rush to sell?

I would... If it's a one-owner machine that has been meticulously maintained and had the valve check done at 26k, then there's a ton of miles left in it. You could probably get a lower price due to the mileage and the fact there are other Fz6's out there with less miles in a similar price range. Not to mention, there's a lot of money in those givi cases.

Hell, if you didn't want the cases, I'd buy 'em from you!

    Re: New Bike

For 3100 that is a really great deal. That hard bag set up is close to 1000$ when you consider the price of the side racks, rear luggage rack, and the bags themselves. Only thing I would ask about is if it has had it's first valve service. AFAIK the valve intervals on the FZ6 are about 22k miles for the first check. But that bag set up is really the cats ass for sport touring.

    Re: New Bike

Are racks really that expensive? I think I have less than $5-600 total into my E21 setup on my V-Strom. Given the E21's are smaller, cheaper, and less popular than those bigger bags. But a grand?!

Edit: Disregard. Did not see the top case too.

    Re: New Bike

OK, just heard back from him. 3rd owner, unsure if valves have been serviced. Previous owner didn't mention & he hasn't done anything to it. What's something like that cost? Couple hundred bucks? That definitely effects my opinion of this bike, especially considering all the other ones around.

    Re: New Bike

If you can't do the valves yourself, it can get expensive. I'm still new here, but I would imagine someone on this forum would be willing to help for a reasonable price. I rarely hear of anyone needing to do much (if any) adjustments on the 26k valve interval on Yamaha's, especially Fz6's, but if it's "uncertain" then you definitely gotta check it out. Sucks, prob why the bike is so cheap.
