    Great first bike

No stickers, dodge viper red, polished frame, tinted double bubble.

INSANELY good looking bike. Very fast bike.

I was talking about buying a bike, and a friend of mine was leaving town for the summer and said if I paid for insurance and registration I could ride it for the summer. Never got it inspected because the tires failed and I wasn't paying to put tires on someone elses bike.

What a great summer of 2005... I was 24, met my wife that summer.

First bike I actually owned? I bought a 2003 Honda RC51 in 2008 for commuting rt. 9 to Worcester. Still have the bike. Got it with 16k miles, getting close to 40k miles.

I still consider the CBR my first bike though.

    Great thread RandyO!
That's kind of how I got that first GPz. It was my buddy's and he plain old wasn't using it. Told me if I cleaned it up, serviced it and got it running I could use it for as long as I wanted. Picked it up, cleaned the shit outta it, replaced the oil/filter/spark plugs, etc., and tossed a new battery in it. Got some fresh rubber for it and I rode the piss out of that thing for a couple summers. I ended up giving that back after a couple summers and getting a clapped out '88 GSXR750 ("Slingshot"). Absolutely hated that thing and got rid of that to get another GPz 750, this time in silver...

That was my second bike. My first was the ultra rare vtr250, bought at Brockton cycle center. I would buy another if I could find one in nice shape and for a reasonable amount.

My little brother and I shared a Yamaha GT80 when we were in our early teens/late pre-teens. My first street bike was a 1979 Kawasaki KZ750 twin.

Mine had literally none of that. Front/rear drums, a terrible headlight (I remember riding home through Lexington, MA holding my flashlight so I could see) and it was just proportionally too small for me. I hated the swept-back handlebars too.

But, it was THE bike all my friends and I learned to ride on, so it's got that shared nostalgia factor.

Kawi KZ305 LTD, think it was an 85, purchased in 1990. Found it in the WantAdvertiser (who remembers that!), I didn't know how to ride so had to have a buddy bring it home

Buzzed around and saved up my shekels until I moved up to a CBR600 in 92. Kept the 305 for a few more years but eventually sold it

'81 CB750C bought new in '82. First street bike I ever rode. Didn't have a MC license. Bought it and rode it home. With one fail, ran out of gas. Pushed it about 2 miles to station, filled it up and then realized it had a reserve.

    Johnny nailed it!

My first helmet was actually a Simpson Bandit. Worse streetbike helmet I've ever owned. It was fuckin' horrible. Granted, that was back in the late 80's. But fuck that, those things sucked!

Hah I thought I was the only person who started out on a KZ305, but that was in 2004-ish. I moved up to a GSXR 600 SRAD after a year on the KZ305. I don't miss either of those bikes, honestly. The first bike I owned that I ever loved was my 08 Z1000.

That would have been the 2015 Silver Street Glide Special I had a hardon for, yeah? I honestly don't remember. I want to say it was "Premium" as they said it was "good to go". But I've been down that road with them with the Low Rider. Still can't believe they fucked off a sale over a fuckin' tire!

    Re: Your first bike

My first bike was a beat up used 1974 TM125 Suzuki. That’s a dual shock, down pipe mx bike. I recall that when I bought it, it was loud as hell, the kickstarter lever wouldn't stay in the closed position, and the kill switch didn’t work. I remember crashing it into my mother’s forsythia bushes in our front yard and it stuck wide open on its side until I shut the petcock off and it ran out of the gas in the carb. That was a lot of noise and smoke LOL.

I worked a whole summer as a tobacco farm field worker at age 14 to buy that bike. $3.25 an hour was the pay and that job was brutal. The bike sucked too but I haven’t been without a bike since
