You guys may not know me over here yet, but I've been lurking for a while now. Did some Tony's days last year... crashed my T etc... Shes back to normal now.
Anyhow, I was working over at Popoli's when the owner called me Monday morning and said that the place was done and to get anything I had in there. The service manager and I got along great, and he tossed me his old dragbike and another cb1100 for some spares when we were getting all our gear out of the place.
He built the bike from the frame up, and put it away in 1985 in the basement. ARD magneto, no battery, no wiring, no lights. Gutted. Solid mount rear suspension, reverse shift, bored out to 1250 with 29mm CR smoothbore carbs. I gave it a quick wipe down and it is PERFECT. Not a rusty crap-bucket like most old CBs. I cleaned the carbs since it was puking fuel when I opened the petcock (which were basically 95% clean), cleaned the points, and she fired up on the third kick! 4 straight pipe megaphones make my tuono sound like a scooter!
Current project: Make her street legal, with a little less dragbike and more cafe style. I will leave the magneto on for ignition, and install a flywheel/stator/R&R/small battery to power only the headlight, tailight, and turn signals (of which I have none). Basically, I'm going to strip it down again to the frame and make up my own wiring harness.
Anybody ever mess with these things? I'm looking on ebay for the stator/flywheel parts, I have boxes of spares but no stator Tires, brakes, electrical, paint... It will be a fun frugal winter!
