when is your bike coming out of storage?

i've been dying to ride in this spring-like weather we've had the last week or so (albeit, were about to get dumped on again). when do people pull their bikes out of storage? set by arbitrary date (March 1st), or wait till weather is "good enough"?

After the few 'nice' days we've just had it makes me want to take it out right NOW. But I'll wait till most of the sand/salt is gone unless I just can't stand it anymore.

If I didn't ski I don't know what I'd do all winter....

for alot of riders, bikes are stored Nov1 to april 1 due to their insurance

My insurance is good all year, which is nice for the few decent days we get in the winter.

I usually start back in riding fairly regularly towards the end of March, beginning of April.

Last year I planned for early april, but if I recall correctly it rained for like 3 weeks straight so it ended up being late april - I fear this year will be the same.

My insurance is also a year round dealeo. If i wasn't putting in 12 hour days the past week or so with work, i'd have had the R1 out. It's been in the low 50s almost ever day sence saturday... The R1 is ready to go at any given moment
The R7 will stay in hibernation until late May or early June

Was on the bike yesterday. Why bother take it off the road. You don't save that much.

I hope nobody got the impression I put my bike up 11/1 to 4/1, I just know that's the time period that alot of insurance policies have..... I've already put 1500 miles on since 1/1

As soon as I have a strip on my dirt road solid enough to get it out of my development. Dirt roads in mud season suck...

I start teaching MSF in Mid April, and roadrace in late april. I pull the bike out to get some rust off my riding a few weeks before my first class. Late March, early April... It's usually cold and wet pretty much until AFTER the first race weekend...

Generally I start to get the bike bug around mid february, roll it into the garage to tinker with something minor, inadvertently break something major, and end up scrambling to get everything back together sometime around mid/late march when the first occasional nice days start to appear.

I just rolled it into the garage to change the rotors so we're right on schedule this year

my insurance went from 50/mo to 12/mo... that's enough savings for me to put it on bare minimum.

This will be my first "spring unveiling"... probably gonna get it out the beginning of March to shake the cobwebs off & get it prepped before VIR

I keep my battery in the bike with a tender on it over the winter so that it is readily available any time the weather is nice. I just took it out this past weekend for a bit.

I am waiting for a good rain or two before I hit my favorite twisties so that there is less of a chance of finding sand patches.

I will take it out late February as usual. I would have taken it out last weeked but there was just way too much sand and salt. And having a new bike that is more powerful and not being used to it I figured it was a bad idea.

But Ill take it out late feb, and start riding daily sometime in mid march, aside from those freak snowstorms we seem to get at least once in March

The roads are pretty clear of salt right now with the giant melt-off.

I rode my bicycle to work on Tuesday. There was a lot of black ice cause the salt has washed away.

If we continue to get rain instead of snow I think I will be going riding this weekend. It's supposed to be in the mid 30s and the roads ought to be pretty clean as long as we don't get more snow and a salting.

I will have to do some serious shoveling though, there is still 2ft of snow blocking my bike in.

when my driveway dries out. before our latest snow storm (atleast 10 inchs) i sunk up to my ankles in mud. the roads around here have a ton of dirt on them in the spring so after the sweepers get done i'll be out. i also like to see a few harlys out and about first. makes people aware that bikes are on the road again.

When the two feet of snow that covers the back yard between my driveway and the shed finally melts. Even then, I may have to employ the shuffling of two 4'x8' sheets of plywood method to get her across the 50 feet of sopping wet yard to the driveway safely without sinking her or dumping her.
