    bike crash cage??

Does anyone here have one? What are your thoughts on them. Are they much better than frame sliders? Most importantly, are they worth it? Thinking about getting one that loops under the bike and stops where the frame sliders are located

    granted they're ugly

are they fairly easy to put on and take off without having to remove engine center mounting bolts? Would they work for a track day, or just cause more problems? WOuld you get alot shit for having one on your bike at a track day? ie, labeled a squid?

    bike crash cage??

You wouldn't get on the track at a tonystrackday with one on your bike. Not if I was teching the bike. You could appeal to Tony, but I don't think you would get anywhere.

You need all the cornering clearance you can get on a trackday. You don't need a piece of tube steel going under your bike from one side to the other scraping the track every corner.

Like hessogood says, that's a stunting thing.

    naaa

I'm not being paranoid, The only reason I asked is because I had a chance to grab one new Dirt cheap. I figured it would be a clearance issue. I got plastics that im refurbishing for track days anyway, just lazy. I figured if it was something you could bolt up easily, eliminating the need to remove the fairings (ie 2 or 3 bolts instead of...... 2 screws, 4 pop screws, and 10 hex bolts...) i might check it out. i just did a little research and saw how much it protruded out when mounted, plus you have to take out existing sliders/ torque in the hidious cage and use like 7+ bolts, So ...Fudge it... yea I KNOw it sounds retarded and probably is but, I was thinking that it was something that you could slap on and remove in like 30 seconds or less at the track with the idea of saving time to check over other stuff( fasteners, bolts, fluids, tire pressure etc... BTW what do you guys think about having a good set of bar end sliders in comparison to stock, flimsy plastic ones in the event of a spill. For those of you who have been down, do you think the better quality bar end sliders would help reduce the damage bill? Thanks

Bar end sliders will not reduce anything. Frame sliders may save your frame, nothing is going to save your bike when you crash.

I'm with skiierx on this one, why are you refurbishing plastics for doing track days. It's not a fashion show out there. Slap the scraped up plactics on the bike and ride the damn thing. Unless there is some structural issue with the rashed up stuff just use it as is and if there is structural stuff just fix that up and don't worry about the look.

i'm not sanding or painting. when I said refurbishing, i should of said fixing/modifying. there are two spots that need a fiberglass/resin build up. one of the spots is located in an area that might take in wind in such a way that it will rip the fairing off while riding. Another spot that also needs a quick rigging is the center mounting bolt around where your knee would be when sitting on the bike, that hole in the fairing has no recessed piece to act like a washer when you put the hex bolt in, It was broken out. The first spot i mentioned regarding the wind issue is a 4 inch long and 1 or 2 inc wide chip in the fairing around another mounting problem spot. All I gotta do is get them to securely mount and drill Holes for my frame sliders.

    Not Really

Not TRUE. I have had the nasty experience of this happening on an old katana years back. Like a jackass I was screwing around on this untrustworthy beat up bike made from spare parts of another equally beat up katana when i was like 16 or 17. LOng story short I nailed it on a secluded service road, the Front came up, and the front of the fairing whipped out to the side like a suicide door. If it had not broke off completely after a few seconds, I might have ate it. Even at 20 or 30 mph you would be surprised how much a self proclaimed wing Wall flying out against the wind will affect the bike staying straight. It broke off as I was closing the throttle. During the incident the bike pulled to the left like a bitch. Granted I was a stupid asshole for even getting on that bike at the time concidering it was a disaster waiting to happen coupled with the fact that it was, uninsured, uninspected, and unregistered. If I were my dad, and new That I did that at the time, Id smack the shit outta myself. Its Funny how when you look back at stuff you did in your younger teen years, you realize that not only did you have your head up your ass sometimes but also got lucky on many occassions where shit could of been alot worse.
