Does it feel like its actually getting that hot? And when the turn signals blink, check that both lights are illuminating?
I think you're on the right path with a dying battery. Clean the terminals, pull any fuses you can, check the water levels and go directly home. Maybe take a lap around the rest-area before heading out.
You could drive straight to the nearest Autozone and have them check the battery for you. Best one's probably

I hate the feeling of riding (or driving) something when you're worried it's about to quit on you. Sucks.
A little late now, but you might find this recent thread So, i guess AAA plus doesnt apply to bikes?

Too late now but see if your ins provider has roadside assistance. Mine is a nominal monthly charge.
Which bike is this Duncan? I had similar really random issues with my old fzr600 some wires somewhere in the loom were not visibly cracked but current was leaking thru the sheathing and I was getting cross talk so to speak and blowing fuses randomly. Download an fsm for the bike and start going thru with a volt meter. Check charging system and battery first then go from there. Good luck

Those figures all look good to me. Have you ridden it since the breakdown? If so what were the electrical symptoms?
If you have time during the week I'm happy to shoot over and check it out with you.
See if your meter reads a true zero with the leads touching. If your meter reads .02 to .06 then your stator readings are perfect. Did you test the regulator with it plugged in and backprobe the connector?
Normal is an illusion, what is normal to the spider is chaos to the fly.
sounds like you have an electrical gremlin in the fairing

I'm no auto electrician but I think you're looking in the wrong place. Yeah, it's good to know that your stator is working properly, but I don't think it's why you're having those problems. I would first look at your distribution block/fuse panel, and then look at your major chassis grounds. Water or corrosion getting in to a junction of some kind would be the first problem I'd look for.

Sounds like a short across circuits or a bad ground. The overheating may have been related if it affected your fan.. a dying battery shouldn't have caused that if the stator was providing a charge

You check your right rear blinker??
If that's ok, then you have a short across circuits.. is the directional integrated switch with the high beems?..
Ok.. it sounds like you have a short across 2 or more circuits.. weather it be an electrical switch or wires that got crushed together.. sometimes a bad ground can do it. But I don't think that's the issue cuz your left side is ok.

if you are saying that the ECU provides ground for the headlights VIA the Y/B wire, then grounding the Y/B wire wont do anything and it should not harm the ECU... if the ECU is providing ground ( stupid of them ) then that means there is a wire going into the ECU, coming from the headlight relay ( I would assume ). you would need to ground that wire to bypass the ECU.. from what you are saying, all the ECU is doing is bridging the gap to ground the headlight relay.. I could offer more help if I had pictures and a wiring diagram.
