    Question Bike engine temperature...

    for those who have an engine temperature indicator, im curious what a typical temperature reading for you is (street riding, not track). im sure it varies from bike to bike, but what range is normal for YOUR bike

    Highway with air flow during 70-80F ambient temp, approx 170-190F. Sitting in traffic with no airflow through radiator or constant stop and start traffic lights; between 220-240F.

    Re: Bike engine temperature...

    anywhere around 75-120*C or 170-248*F

    Low end of the spectrum when it's a nice day & i'm not in traffic... top end when it's hot & i'm STUCK in traffic. Pretty rare that it gets above 95*C (bout 200.)

    Re: Bike engine temperature...

    06 R1, seems to always be in the 170-175 range no matter what the outside temp is as long as I am moving. If I get stuck in traffic, the fan cycles on at 218, and it cools to 208 before shutting off. I've never seen a temp above 218 on my bike.
    The 98 R1 I had used to always run at 164 if I was moving and that one the fan cycled from 224 down to 214

    Moving in sub 80 degree weather: 175 steady
    Stopped: Quickly moves up to 219 and the fans come on

    yea man same as mine when new and have seen 220 at most. but now it doesn't go down when fan kicked in and i have seen 240 unless i start moving quick. i had water in there at some point when i notice. now has that expensive antifreeze and seems worse. im taking thermostat out next.

    (2006 ZZR600)

    exactly 153 all day on the highway when it's under 80 degrees out, otherwise it floats in the low 160s.

    in traffic it'll hover around 185-195, and occasionally will hit 200-210 when it's really hot. in heavy traffic fan will kick at 215 till it drops to 205...this goes on till i can stay above 15mph or so again.

    04 cbr 1k

    174 when moving and 233 when sitting at a light. After 14000 miles or so I discovered that if you hold the throttle just ever so slightly off idle the fan so graciously kicks on and she'd hover around 217-219 till I started to move again, in cooler weather it would come down to 209 - 211.

    Not sure if other mfg's have the same function feature but it's worth the testing to keep your eng slightly below grenade temps

    CBR 929 W/ antifreeze

    80deg
    Highway = 178-182
    Traffic = 214-225

    I may be switching to water my next oil change for the hotter temps within the next couple of months. Who else is running straight water with an additive? Does it help with the recovery temp?

    RC51 - cold days (35-55) runs 150-165 around town. Summer, the fans will turn on at ~220 and take it down to around 207 in traffic or not. Frame gets so damn hot its unbelievable. Easily the hottest bike ive ever ridden

    Re: Bike engine temperature...

    Mine is steady at around 175F when moving, that's when the thermostat opens/closes.

    Fan comes on at 220 in traffic, which happens pretty easily.

    We are all at the mercy of the manufacturers here.. bikes will probably only get hotter. Current bikes run hotter then the old ones cause the EFI allows them to run leaner mixtures.. better fuel economy & emissions as emissions tend to drop as exhaust gas temperture goes up. All the extra horsepower isn't helping either.

    I swear mine runs a little cooler with the map richened a little.. but I can't prove it scientifically or anything.

    My Duc 851 would get as high as 240 in traffic... I switched to engine ice - it still go as hot be recoverd to normal temp quicker - the motor was pretty heavily breathed on:-). It also ran cooler in normal operation180 vs 210.
    added race fuel...brought the temp down further... (slower burning)
