Will a bike fit in the back of an SUV? (laying down)

My friend went down pretty hard today. Bike is all scratched up and looks like hell.

I'm going to go pick him up in a bit but uhaul doesn't have any trailers available. Has anyone tried putting the bike in the back of a truck/SUV laying down?

He doesn't want to leave it at the side of the road b/c already people have been eyeing it.

its a CBR 600RR and I'll be getting it in my Tahoe

It will probably fit, people throw them in vans when they steal them

is it insured? maybe he should leave it there, get it stolen and claim it stolen instead of crashed?

I'd say you could get it in there.. might not be able to close the back gate though. Bring a tarp so the bike dosn't leak fluids back there.

If its an enclosed SUV, this could be an issue worth taking note of.

I thought people usually steal them in Minivans.

I'm pretty sure that's how they took mine

guy on the kawiforums fit one laying down inside his rav4 so i dont see why it wont just bring something to throw down to protect the truck. did say it was a pita cuz he has a swinging oor so no one could stand on one side to help put it in the back

I also think it's possible...here is how I got to my second track day!

I used my parent's 2002 Mazda MPV minivan! the issue I had was with height...and removing the windscreen made it possible for me

the taller MX bike, on the other hand...wasn't happening

still trying to find a cheap way to haul this thing around...

im gonna second let it sit there and get stolen. Then you can get a NEW bike and not pay for repairing a busted up one! weeeeeeeeeee

but yes, if you must save it, chuck it in there, im betting it fits no problem!

gad mileage, 7 passenger, minvans FTW!

what about sans mirrors/windscreen and tipped to the side?

it doesn't have to be perfect for a 1-time deal...

Re: Will a bike fit in the back of an SUV? (laying down)

well. needless to say I made it work!

It actually fit standing up with the kickstand down, and was put in at an angle. One of the rear barn doors couldn't close all the way (so anyone behind us saw the bike sticking out of the back and we got a lot of curious stares lol)

    thanks for your help guys.

I'll try to dig up some pics in a few

You need to do the ratchet strap trick. Wench the forks down, then put it in.

A guy from NY that raced 2 years ago would put his R6 minus wind screen in back of his Honda Element, kinda blew my mind the first time it came out

a few pictures are worth a gazillion words

    congrats!

I'm into dirt bikes a lot more than street bikes recently, and none of them are street legal. So anytime I see a novel way of getting a steel horse from A to B without breaking any laws, I'm all about it

    cool trick!

I tried it on the XR200R, and I was able to roll it right into the minivan

the RM, otoh, was just too tall with the front wheel on. Maybe it'll work if I yanked the axle, dropped the front wheel, and compressed the forks?
