I am experimenting with an aluminum bar between two of the fairing stays. Despite what I think is the perfect position and orientation on the bike, I still get miss-reads all the time.
I was told by a few folks that they dont always register in pockets. u guys have this issue? thats why i chose to have in position like a windshield.
When it doesn't register they just run the plate here in NH. Toll commission has never had a problem getting their money from me.
mines stuck on the back of my flyscreen.
I never have mine on me, I just run through it and they charge my account through my plate number.

I was told by the Maine EZ Pass people not to bother with trying to carry/mount it on my bike. List the plate number on the form, and they'll figure it out from the toll cameras.
Funny, I just got my first one last week, and was reading about it earlier today to learn what works and what doesn't. Appears there isn't a whole lot of solid "this will work ALWAYS" answers. Also, seemed more people had solid recommendations on how to skip through the system than they do about how to use it properly.
I have a tail-bag that it might work nicely in, but I'm worried that my body will be blocking it. I read some people saying that because it's RF, line of sight didn't matter, but some were claiming it did due to weak signal power.

The lady at ezpass daid i get 2 free passes a month. so if it does not register the third time a get ticket.
in MA, they charge 1.00 if they do the camera verification....thats if the transponder does not register.
putting it in my jacket pocket, i'd say 1 out of 10 you will not be successfull...make sure you slow down to posted speed limit
when you go thru.
tried mounting elsewhere, same result as jacket, you will miss sometimes.

Put in the top clear map pocket of the tank bag. Worked every time for two years.

For those who have had trouble, what seems to be the strong factors for improving your odds? Speed and lane position? Or visibility of the device?

I just leave it home so I don't loose it. they get my plate and charge me.
I heard that you get a fee for doing this but after 2 years of never getting one either here or in NH I stopped believing that line.
Maybe they give a free pass to Motorcycles since I've never tried it in my car...
on the other hand, if they don't charge you then... the camera's can't even see your plate which is what I know another forum member has experienced
edit..
this def hasn't been my experience but rules do change...
last summer I rode on the Pike at least 3 times a week to see my girl in Boston over the summer and never got charge a penny more than the toll.

Mine has never worked in a pocket, and seldom in a tank bag. I put it on the front of the bike, and use a piece of parachute cord to tie it on. The 3M Dual Lock they use is pretty secure.
You guys have inspired me. Since we have a 3D printer, I'll look into designing something that will fit on a handlebar and hold a transponder.
Nevermind - Twisted Throttle has a nice one!

I was thinking of you today actualy knowing you make stuff. a slid in type unit keeping the top open would be cool
I use the velcro-like strips and mount to the backside of my windscreen. The sensors are mounted over the center of the lane, and I try to position the bike in the center going through as well. This has been fairly reliable.
Previously, I had problems with it working in (tank bags, pockets, etc.)
I run mine in the map pocket of the tank bag now, but previously had zip tied it in various locations without issue. One or two zip ties tight on the transponder and then one or two through those to whatever looks like a good home for it. I've had license plates fly off the bike before, but the Fastlane never moved.
