Bike shuts off after messing with the clutch lever

Good morning NESR fellows. So I just bought a 02 Ninja ZX6-R yesterday. Everything was fine yesterday. I took it out for a spin and it was smooth. Then I realize that the clutch lever was too long for my small hands so I tried to mess with the adjuster "the little chrome circle thing that is where the clutch lever is located" So I tried to loosen it this morning to see if I could adjust the clutch to engaged closer to the handle bar. So after doing so I couldn't get the bike into neutrol so I adjusted it againg and now it goes into neutrol but when I try to engage the clutch at first gear the bikes just shuts off. I keep messing with the so called adjuster and same thing happens, I put it on first and try to take off then the bike just shuts off. One thing I noticed is that when the bike is off I can put the bike from neutrol into first gear and back to neutrol with out having to desengaged the clutch lever like not even having to press on it and I can shift into first, is this normal on bikes? I'm pretty sure this happend after I tried to mess with the clutch lever adjuster thing. Could this be an electrical problem? Since I do see a little senser at the clutch lever. Please help me out guys and thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may have messed up the clutch safety. Do you have the shop manual?
