my new bike stolen : (

so my 03 r1 that i just got about a month ago was stolen

left for work at 10am yesterday, came home at midnight.

    gone.

i am just disgusted. i was at the police station filling out the report. woke up this morning went to my insurance guy to fill out a claim. its being investiaged right now.

    its utterly disgusting.

i parked it right on the sidewalk right in front of my house every single night.
i parked my previous bike that i had since i was 18 (04 f4i) same spot.

question to u guys is i have theft on my bike.
i traded my old f4i plus 1500 cash to a middle man who bought the bike off a friend.

bike is in my name clean etc.

since i parked it on the sidewalk in front of my alleyway in front of my house could they void the insurance since its kinda on the sidewalk.
i cant park it on my street because its resident parking here in boston, ma but i can park it 25 feet down on the next corner which is not considered resident parking.

anyway its was on the sidewalk / in front of the alley way of my house.

how long does this insurance investigation go on? weeks? months?

can they screw me on money? do they go book value or the title price i put which i paid for was 1000 dollars because at the time i just traded my old bike straight up for the r1 and paid him cash later on on the side.

so i am confused on how they are going to give me a price on the check they better give to me. according to the rmv when i paid sales tax on it it was booked at 5200 and that was the absolute lowest they use to determine tax.

i just want the money that i paid for it. my old bikes value + 1500. guess the mods i threw on there are gone?

i am just disgusted looking outside with no bike.

    god i hate people

Sorry to hear that bro!!!! I've been telling my neighbor the same thing. He parks his brand new 2007 GSXR on the sidewalk every fucking night. And he has a garage which makes me even more sick about the whole thing
    Its just asking for trouble.

    Sorry again

Are you sure the city did not impound it since it was on the sidewalk? Call the impound lot, even though you called the PD, it still could be there.

Otherwise, where you park it has nothing to do with your insurance.

Ins will pay bike's book value minus deductibles (if any). If you modded the bike, they may cover it. I believe value is something you can try to negotiate. In the future you should discuss beforehand w/ your insurance. I have had no problem covering after-market equip as long as I provide receipts and pictures (this is after the modifications, not after something happens...).

    Best of luck!

If you have receipts for your aftermarket stuff then you can claim them FYI.

As for length of time that all depends on you. Some companies do have required waiting periods (30,60,90 days) but you need to call the accessor every few days and check in. If a month goes by and nothing has happened then start screaming at him/her that they arent doing their jobs and you need to talk to their supervisor. Good luck man that BLOWS!!

My best bud back in Canada had the same thing happen with his ZX-10.
I know how you may be feeling right now as we had a good talk about how he felt as well.
Life can be a real shit sandwich somedays, and once in a while we take a bite.

    Good luck with the claim.

Here is the deal The first 3 (usally one sidewalk square) Feet of Sidewalk closest to the Street is property of the city of boston anything 3 feet away from the street towards the building is private property of the building owner. I am not sure its 3 or 4 feet but thats how it works.

either way it has nothing to do with you insurance

    That sucks about the bike.

I know in my City, where it's residential parking, motorcycles are allowed without permits due to the fact that there's no where to put them that won't damage the bike when it comes time to remove them. I'd call the traffic office for when you get your next bike. I doubt they would have impounded it, most of the time, some crazy PCO will just write a ticket for it, and usually only when they get a complaint about it.

sorry to hear about your bike, that sucks.

the first thing that stolen cars does is make sure the vehicle wasn't towed.

for all to know, tow companies in boston have to call in all of their tows and get approval. this is so someone with a tow truck or flatbed can't just move a vehicle. if the owner is with vehicle and towing to a private location, then it is not as strict, but i will double check.

Fuck that sucks man. I've been there and I know how it feels. There is room to play with the insurance amount. They will give you market value, if you do a search and find your exact bike selling for more they may bump it up. You're supposed to be able to go out and get the same bike with the $$ they give you. The first "offer" they made me was too low, I told them to search cycletrader.com and see the bike was selling for $1k more. They eventually agreed and cut me the check.

Don't settle right away but be realistic too. Not sure about the mods.
