    bike touring.

ok is $180 reasonable for this little set up?

its a tent, two stools (???whatever???) and two sleepingbags.
i like that it packs down nice and small for bungeeing to the bike and will fit two of us. not a lot of details on the website though.

    Sure. Looks good from here.
Funny how the smaller stuff costs more.

there also a lower cost option... which i am liking more, but its not as nifty for packing convenience...

    a pretty simple tent...

with a real nifty (probably way too hot though) queen size sleeping bag...

just how hot is a 0 degree bag? is it something where for summer use you could just leave it open and bring a sheet or light blanket with you? does that defeat the purpose of having a nice warm sleeping bag?

If the sleeping bag is too hot you can lay on it. But if its too cold your gonna freeze your ass off without it.

how about get a trailer and attach it to the bike , dunno if it'd work tho cause it'd be hard to steer

But anyway get those tents that pop open and are back packs , those look very small and it doesn't require assembly so it's all good.

I'd go look at REI and EMS as well, there will be someone there who can probably answer your question.

My gut instinct is to wonder if the stuff is any good if it's $180 for all that stuff, the weights they list are very heavy for tents and sleeping bags.

Expensive Mountain Shit carries all sorts of decent tents, but I wouldn't want to spend that much for something on the bike. Unless you are planning to use it very frequently, I'd say the Wal-Mart option is the best way. Then, if you get sick of it, you won't have invested much.

We camped out at Laconia for the first five years I was there. Even being 16 and excited about camping with a bike, it still sucked ass when it rained. Just MHO...
