Biker dies in Watertown

Was driving on Main street yesterday afternoon and saw that the road was blocked off. In the distance I saw a sportbike lying in the middle of the street.

I was not going to get any more mods for the bike but now, I am seriously considering those blinky headlight modulators.

The crash scene, it turns out, is just about a mile from my house...I drove there. A memorial has been placed there, consisiting of a simple wooden cross with the name "Falco" written on it. Flowers and candles surround it, and there were a number of people stopping by to pay their respects. I stopped and walked up to some of those gathered and inquired about him. I was told he was just 26. They said he owned a Harley, but this time he was on a friends bike...they didnt say if it was a sportbike or not, and it doesnt matter. They volunteered that from what they knew, he had been going a bit too fast, nothing crazy, and that some lady driving ahead of him had slowed down to take a turn, without using a blinker, and that he had rearended her car. The Globe newspaper said that he was headed west, and the cager east, so there is conflicting info as to what happened. Those gathered seemed pretty certain he had rearended her. I was premature in speculating a left turner had taken him out, but the fact remains that left turning cagers are a huge proportion of cager/bike crashes. I guess the true facts will come out eventually in this case. Either way, its a sad reminder of just how vulnerable we riders are on our bikes. I didnt know him of course, but in another way, we all did, as fellow riders. Such a needless waste of a young life. If nothing else, keep him in your thoughts as you ride...not only in his memory, but just as importantly to keep yourselves safe and avoid all the heartbreak. Peace.

i heard this guy was screwing around
his harley, trashed it the week before on main st in waltham,
borrowed his friends bike and trashed it too, my friend's in laws lived right where the kid crashed the father said for 20 mins the kid was riding up and down the street doing wheelies and other stuff and then the father in law heard two loud smashes and went outside and the beanie he was wearing was shattered along with his head, this situation is unforutate but we should be learning from our mistakes not taking more chances

I live right near there too, I almost rode by yesterday to check it out as I was out riding around lunchtime.

I feel bad for the guy but if he was one of the harley crew I see on main street all the time he had it coming and if he dumped his own Harley recently and didn't get the wake up call it's really sad.

Main street through Waltham & Watertown is insanely, insanely dangerous from around the 117/20 split in Waltham to the 16/main street intersection in watertown, and I constantly see that poser crew "dragging" off the lights in heavy traffic, despite a constant flow of cars doing stupid things, pulling into traffic, not signalling, etc.. not to mention pedestrians jay walking and so on and so forth. I tip-toe down main street in full paranoia if I get stuck on it, and every time someone in a car almost hits me.

Be careful out there, it is nasty, yesterday I went around a blind right hand corner marked 20mph, halfway through I come across a jackass in a Mercedes completely in my lane, doing his best race car out-in-out impression. I was dead centered in the lane and was able to switch to the inside 1/3 to avoid him but if I'd been in the outside 1/3 I bet I would have clipped him, and if I was in a car we would have had a head-on accident. Add this to thursday when I found a Volvo stopped abandoned in the middle of an on-ramp.

I was eating breakfast at this place called Victor's in Watertown. This place is great. They give you a lot of food for cheap money. Anyway, there were 3 guys there on sportbikes (all silver) having breakfast. I was talking to one of them and he stated they were going riding on RT117, if not there, they were going to cruise around BU. Before they left, I said to them be careful and watch out for other drivers. I hope it wasn't one of them because they all seemed pretty cool.

My store is on Pleasant Street, which runs parallel to Main. A customer came in about 3:30 Saturday and told us to avoid Main St. because something was going on and the street was blocked off. I saw the memorial today and just read what happened. It's a tough spot. I only crossed over it a few times riding home from the store. Don't think Im brave enough to ride all the way down Main St. The intersection at Main/Mt. Auburn/Arsenal is outright frightening. RIP.

I live in Waltham and I was wondering if one of the kids in that house had crashed. Unfortunate but if he was taking chances he had it coming. No reason to take more chances than you already do. I feel bad for his family and friends

My friend who lives in Watertown said that the funeral was last week. He said there were a bunch of cruizer bikes doing burn outs at the funeral. He believes the guy was in a biker club.

Boy, it can be hard to nail the details down, but...a friend of mine who lives nearby said he learned that the guy had pulled away from a redlight on Main st., heading west, and popped a wheelie right after getting the green light, and that a woman pulling out of a side street on his side of the road pulled out part way and then she froze as the bike bore down on her. I dunno, maybe the sight of this speeding bike up on one wheel coming at her caused her to just freeze like a deer in the headlights. Only those involved know exactly what happened. I rode by the site of the crash and memorial set up there today, and there were a number of tire marks from burnouts and doughnuts in the road in front of the memorial, as a tribute of sorts. I heard he died of a broken neck.

This was his obituary. I saw the funeral procession in front of the funeral home on Friday morning and saw maybe 5 bikes parked outside the funeral home. It was a very large funeral with police motorcycle escorts. Haven't heard many details - seems to be being kept very private.
