    RC8R valv stem ruined

Schrader valve was stuck, tried to remove it, broke off half way

Never changed a valve stem before, think these will work?

They likely will, you'll want to find out the size of the hole in your rim just to be sure, but those should.

I like putting in the 90° ones to make pressure checks/adjustments easier.

+1 on checking sizing and i'd maybe look for a bit higher quality stem, the metal looks iffy on those. not sure what the OEM RC8 stems are like but should be an easy swap. wild it snapped.

    also agree on 90°.

You should probably know the valve stem hole size before ordering anything. Seems like most motorcycles are 8.5mm/11.5mm F/R? Something like this might be a better fit and more convenient.

    Re: RC8R valv stem ruined

oh yeah, its a nice bike, Im all for getting nicer valve stems. A friend has a tire machine, so we can break the bead and just swap the stem without even removing the tire we are hoping. I DO NOT want to scratch those orange Marchenesi wheels...

what I got out vs what a normal one looks like.

I was hoping motorcycles were a standard size, Ill have to figure out what size hole it is. I want to have one here before the weekend.

note the green, I think it was fix a flatted at one time

I'd guess it's an 8.3mm as that's what most of my non-Japanese bikes are. Or at least my Triumphs. I've gotten to the point where I just keep a small stash of both 8.3mm and 11.3mm 90 degree valve stems on hand. I'd just buy them both and hold onto/gift/return the one you don't need.

This was in the middle of replacing the grill on my truck, needed a part from the store, took the EXCf, that has a CEL, store didnt have the part, came back to get the RC8r to go to a further town, got half my snowmobile gear on, kicked the tire last minute to check air, needed air, then the schrader valve is stuck..... It was one of THOSE fuckin days, boys

Make sure you get the little tool to help pull it through. use lube to pull it through too. Personally i just use the all rubber ones. I have never had one fail. No need to try and bling out what no one will see. Can you imagine that nut backing off in the middle of maine? Your bumming.

I have no idea how you're going to install a stem without removing the tire, but major props if you pull it off.

Yeah, pinch the tire with a large C-clamp. Done it before.

The two piece types are actually easier than the rubber stems since you don't need to pull it through. Just pop the beads to get them in the drop center and you'll have plenty of room to work. Worst case you can use a stem puller tool like this to fish it back in.

Rear tire is easy to squish and replace valve stem.

I've never heard of this happening and has never been a concern of mine. 65k miles without issue on my Tiger, maybe 150k on all of my bikes combined, and I ride to some pretty remote locations.

    Re: RC8R valv stem ruined

It happens on my nsr. I assume because it's a buzzy machine I beat to near death every time I start it plus 30 year old rims.. It has a weird Honda metric rim that uses those nutted on valve stems. It become such a pain I just put tubes in it.

IMO, that green gunk is moisture causing the copper within the metal to oxidize.

Flat repair products like Fix-a-flat have cotton (or cotton-like) strands mixed into the liquid which helps seal the puncture. You'd be seeing those strands all in that valve stem core if such a product were used at some point.

You don't want a metal valve stem. You want aluminum. These will work perfectly and track tried and true.

    Super easy to install.
