Your VF sold for that because someone saw potential in it, and they aren't wrong. I'm willing to bet someone here who keeps a low profile bought it and I'm also pretty sure I know who it was.
I'm just saying tat I think you're off the mark on that VFR. I know of one in a shop that has about 10k miles I think and is not quite as nice as this one, but I know they wouldn't even think about selling for under $6K. Every V4 Honda is climbing in value, even the POS ones, all the way to 2002. Then the market drops off. I'm sure you know that a nice example 5th Gen will fetch more than an average 6th gen, although technically the 6th gen is far superior on paper.
If you're speaking from personal preference, thats a different matter. I wouldn't buy a 4th gen just because of carbs, either. That's doesn't mean they aren't worth it thoigh. Someone will snatch up that one on facebook for asking price. I own a 5th gen VFR800 and I wouldn't buy a carbed one, either, but plenty of people have no problem with dealing with that hassle.
I am speaking from experience. I paid $500 for that VF1000R. I spent a hundred on a battery and another 150 getting paperwork through Vermont.
From what I know about the VFR800, people don't like the VTEC model. I am too retarded to know why but I think it's the valve adjustments. I've had a couple 800s and theyre great.
Here's the 750 I had
Attachment 57433
And what it looked like when I sold it. Like I said, only 13k original miles
Attachment 57434
Do you think the 6,000$ VFR is a fluke like the 50k CBR900RR on BringATrailer or is that where they are headed? I have a one owner all original 93 RR here. 50k just seems patently insane to me.

People don't like the VTEC models because they aren't very smooth on the transition I believe. Something like that. The 99-01 5th Gen is 800cc also. Not sure if you knew that.
Well I know of 2 that are going for $6K region now, so not a fluke, but they haven't sold.....yet. This summer is going to be nuts. The bike market is hotting up already. There was a crated RC51 for sale last week for $40,000. People are lauging, but 10 years ago they were laughing at the crated RC30 that was $40K and Ducati Supermono for $30K. Now you wouldn't get a crated RC30 (if there are any) for less than about $80K and a supermono is going to be deep into 6 figures.
The 400s are where the market is stalling. I honestly think the shine is wearing off for some. The ones coming over now are generally a bit rough. The 250 srokers like RGVs are the new hot bike. VJ22s can be 5 figures. They were EVERYWHERE when i was in my early 20s. I owned 3 of them I think. I also had a Cagiva Mito and they are pieces of junk, but now worth a fortune.
Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
Oh, and a nice 93 CBR900RR all original is a pretty nice bike. If you're selling, I may have a buyer. The 50K one was shady. Not sure what was going on there. That's ridiculous. They rarely come up in nice original condition. I would guess between $10k and $13K, but in this market, who the fuck knows. It's crazy.

An 06 Kan-of-Tuna 750 for 7000
A dollar more than it’s original MSRP of 6999

I mean…. Can’t hurt to throw the RR up for 50k……
Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
I think the VTEC hate was a combination of valve adjustment expense and how it "felt" to ride one when VTEC kicked in (y0). But I never rode a 6th gen VFR so I don't know..

5th gen VFRs receive more love than 6th gens because of the gear driven cams, imo. Having owned both I have a small preference for the 6th

Ninja went to Dennis McPherson of DMC racing. Not sure if he still has it but this is what it looked like when I first bought it. Probably one of the better achievements. I miss it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6597cf9d23.jpg

Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
I'd guess not, to get to crazy prices like the $50k CBR usually requires an auction with multiple bidders engaging in a p**** measuring contest
