Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
Agree, more of a project than I'd want right now, but not horrible as far as I can see.
Titles, that's good. If the 900 frame is cracked at the steering head, that was an original mfg defect. Ducati replaced some warranty for a while, and there's a gusseting fix for that.
Here's a pic of mine, showing the typical problem area -- this is a factory update frame with the cross brace between the two tubes.

Yeah, I have a house out there so it's semi local.
I'm trying to keep the cost low. I'm flipping to bigger and bigger things but I'm not at that price yet. The ninja 250 I sold got me up to about $2300 so far from just about nothing. Its just part of the game lol.

Damn a lotta talk about cheap ducatis that seem to need work… why not a cheap modern street fighter?

I had a 2002 Bandit 1200 for a couple of years, really liked it, probably should have kept it. That year was air-cooled, carb'd, 5-speed. Very stable, a great ride, so much grunt, pulls from 1K rpm, It really was kind of big for me to push around, and too long reach to the bars for me, should be fine for you. What year are you looking at? I think the Bandit is a great bike and usually priced pretty low.

If it actually runs… it’s that weird monetary range. If that’s not worth $1800, what should it be worth? And if that’s not, then what should a same year less rare Japanese dirtbike be? If you can find me a 250cc or bigger, functional old dirtbike for 1500 or less, please do.
Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
As someone who has dealt with old dirtbikes before, they aren't worth much, unless you think dropping a ton of money to "restore" them and have them still be worth very little is a good time.

Here's a suggestion, maybe contact this seller in Cold Spring NY, seems he's a Ducati guy selling various bikes and parts, and Guzzi, etc.. This little bike has been posted on and off the past year for around $3K, I can't find those ads, but this one is still up. I considered it, sure would be a fun bike. "1985 Cagiva Allazurra with a running 600 PANTAH (yes 600)"
Says it's running, but doesn't say how well.

It's on the NER Sell & Buy page ...
BTW, feel free to ignore this and any other suggestions of mine, I won't be offended.

I had to admit: they are unique mods. Not my cup of tea at all, but it beats putting an extended swingarm and a 240-profile tire on the back.
Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist
I thought I’d like a single sided swingarm on anything… I do like that, but it’s borderline, doesn’t look 100% right.
The choice to go with the Buelle brake is kind of random…

I could go for one of these. Be great for car camping.........
