Love the sound of those crossplane bikes.

There’s some tires that are manufactured to be used for either front or rear.
The tire rotation printed on the sidewall looks like this:
    <—FRONT…….REAR—>

And at least one case where the same tire was sold under two different labels, with the directions being flipped purely for aesthetics.

I thought they were close to 20k new, not 17xxx, so not quite as good a price as I thought, but still looks cool. Interesting the bike has the auto lowering feature..

    Which Tiger?

Depends on options. They get over 20k pretty quick.

Have you guys ridden the Pan America? I rode one at Dirtdaze and wasn’t exactly blown away. A lot of guys ridding them there were talking about trading them in for something else. Just anecdotal, but…

I think Harley got all the rave reviews largely because people were expecting the bike to suck, and they were rightly praised for making a good bike. But I don’t think it deserved the bike of the year or ADV of the year wins it got.

That bike I think would have been $22k MSRP as pictured.

I've only talked to a handful of owners, but everyone I spoke with absolutely loved 'em. I was sure to ask what they were riding before going with the Pan America.

I got mine as a two up sport tourer, no interest in ADV riding it when I've got two KTMs in the garage for dirt. Now that HD seems to have the ECU gremlins worked out it's a great, easy to ride street bike.

I rode the Pan Am on Ortega hwy (no dirt), it didn't just surprise me as being a great bike from Harley, but it truly rivals the other large ADVs. Is it on the same level as a well-optioned R1250GS? No, not quite there but assuming you get a deal on a Pan Am, it's definitely a value proposition.

Same reason I got my Tiger 1200, it had incredible value per performance/function at the time of purchase.

The more I see the ADV bikes up close & REALLY check 'em out, I found myself telling Big Shirl that I could TOTALLY see one in the garage once the pig is paid for. I'm seeing them ALL over the place lately. I'm not talking strictly HD here. The ADV bikes are starting to grow on me.

They’re very comfortable, capable, and versatile.

None of the Pan Am riders I talked to disliked the bike, they were just ready to move on after a year or so of ownership. When I rode it I thought it was good, but nothing special and I don’t care for the looks (although they have grown on me since first release). I was expecting more after the hype.

Re: The Best bikes on Craigslist

I often get asked "if you had to sell all your bikes except one, what would you keep"? My answer is my Tiger 1200 (or any ADV really). While it may not excel in any one area of riding, it can handle them all pretty well: sport touring, slab touring, commuting, 2-up, dirt, heck I even took mine to the track once and had fun.

I can see why people buy them and get bored of them, especially if they focus their riding into one genre. But if you can appreciate a do-all motorcycle, I'm not sure there's many better options.
