    Bikes you regret selling??

Ive had approx. 12 motorcycles in my life, I regret selling only a few. Here they are....

1989 Honda Hawk GT, my 1st bike ever and it was awesome, sold it for $800.....and didnt need the $800

2005 MV Agusta F4 1000S, an amazing machine, was in a financial bad spot, had to sell it quick, lost my shirt on it too

2003 Honda RC51, ya ya ya, I know, we all regret selling our 51's....I truly do, my bike was minty clean and sweet

2012 Ducati 848 Corse, best bike Ive ever owned, it was just that perfect combination that felt like an extension of me while riding, stupidly traded it for something with MORE POWER

What machines do you regret selling?

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

Hmm.. I haven't owned enough bikes to actually have a list of sales I regret, but.. while this probably doesn't count I do miss the hell out of my 2005 Suzuki GS500F. My first street bike and nearly 20k later I got rid of it this summer for the GSX-R. Totally happy with the choice, but part of me reallly wanted to keep that bike forever. Just a great little bike, plenty of zip for around town riding and crazy flickable with those skinny tires. So yeah, not a regret, but wish I could have kept it around. That being said, it was so weak in the knees I actually though I was running on one cylinder when I didn't ride it for a few months... forgot what 35HP felt like lol

If you're looking for a street hawk... unmolested... let me know. I'm thinking of unloading mine. I will probably regret selling it but I just don't ride it nearly enough to keep it.

2001 GSXR 1000. Had a slip on, braided lines, and PK did the suspension. I crashed it with 299 miles on the clock. I rode that bike to Wyoming and back in a week (I'm stupid) traded it on an RC51, then bought it back, and then traded the RC51 and the GSXR for a 749s. I would like to have that bike back.

I've had 20+ bikes between dirt and street bikes. I can't say I really regret selling any of the ones that are gone. That surprises me, actually. Maybe it's because I almost never buy anything that great to begin with.

I've only really sold 2 motorcycles. I regret selling neither.
I spend huge amount of time contemplating selling a couple and keep circling back to the dirty fact that I like the motorcycles more than I like the $ I'd get for 'em.

The 5982 fucking oil changes per year is getting old though.

    06 R1 anniversary edition.

One of the best looking bikes ever made.

Throttle response was great. Just enough power.

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

2009 Monster 696, Termi package, 14T sprocket, touring seat. It was a perfect bike. light. Nimble. Loads of character. Yellow skins. I took it to a track day once and really got to know it well. I sold it to get a Daytona 675 which I kept until the first time I got in trouble with it. Got another Monster, 1100, but the fueling seems off (probably because I didn't have the Termi ECU). I still kind of miss my old 696 as it was fast enough, economical enough, comfortable enough and just right for every day commuting in style. I owned it for 4 years and decided I was getting bored...

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

A pair of 1993 models. 93 VFR was close to perfect in my eyes. I really liked that bike. My interests changed and the bike sat.. Never should have parted with that one. The wife liked riding on the back and I loved listening to the gear drive cams and the sounds that came out after 8000 rpm.

93 YZ250 prepared by GP Racing is still the outright fastest best suspended dirt bike I've ridden to date. It looked great. Had ridiculous brakes and did I mention the power? Jesus christ did it ever have power. Sadly I needed to raise cash to buy a house so it went down the road.

My 08 Z1000 was my first love affair with a bike and I didn't want to sell it.

That said, my Super Adventure is hands down the best bike I have ever owned, so I don't really think about the Z1k anymore.

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

I have avoided that trap pretty well by never selling any bike I bought to keep. They've all either been ridden until dead, or I still have them.
After college I did buy and sell a bunch of bikes, but those weren't bought to keep; they were bought to fix up a bit and flip. Mostly '70's and '80's UJMs.
The only one of those I occasionally wish I'd kept was a '74 Suzuki GT380 (2-stroke triple). That was a fun bike.

I wish I'd kept my Falco. I just couldn't ride it much due to my wrists. I kept that bike in showroom condition, it to me was a beautiful bike. I should have just kept it and put it in my office.

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

breakdirt916's comment on bikes like women is spot on. You develop relationship with them and remember the best and forgive the miss givings later on. One follow up date with them and you remember why you dumped them. In a polygamous world we keep them all and have a big house to keep them all happy. Ride them when you can and live happily ever after. Only one thing that prohibits that - $$$$$$

I too had a Hawk GT and miss that bike. Probably because I had to sell it after an accident involving 5 cars with me in the middle. The wife at the time told me to get rid of it. We all know how that story ends. I now have 7 motorized two wheelers in the garage and no wife. This probably could start a thread on what's the best number of bikes to own at the same time and which ones would it be for you? Peter Eagan had a Cycle Word article once asking that exact question. He came up with 5 as the perfect number to keep them all happy and to cover the diversity of which each bike has a purpose.

The ultimate wish I kept it is the 996S in my avatar.

Right now I have four; a do-all dirt bike with spare wheels and ice tires, a bagger, a hooligan street bike (speed triple), and an sv650 that's set up for track but can be converted back to street, including hard bags and wiring for phone charging, etc. Seems like a good long term set up covering all the bases...what does he say I'm missing that I need a fifth for?
