I miss having my dirtbike, but I'll get another. It was just such a reliable clean low hours example of a typically abused class of machine.

Meh, they are just machines. Loss aversion bias is a real thing. Don't let it control you.

I do miss selling the Yamaha XT225, just and all around fun bike

It would be nice to have another dual sport, a little more power though

I think I taught 5 people to ride on that 225, it was just such a cream puff

My Ducati 748SP. It was previously a development bike for Vee-Two Engineering and had the first 955cc stroker kit they ever made. I took a bath selling it, and wish I didn't..

Only owned three so far. Still have two of them. The one I think I would have a hard time parting with is my 06 GSX-R 750. To date, it's still my favorite bike.

No regrets here, my first bike sits in house in its own room. Only one with real meaning to me.

Knowing Egan, I'd guess that your missing base that he would cover is some sort of vintage bike. I know that if I was specifying my dream garage, there'd definitely be a place for a Norton Commando, or a Vincent, or some such.

2001 CBR 929rr. Bought new in 01 and owned it until I had to travel for work and didn't have a place to store it, so i sold it. The bike was extremly clean. In reality riding in the Newport area was slowly pushing me away from riding because I was riding less and less every year. It was 30-45 minutes just to get to decent riding but too close to work get enough speed to not show up sweaty in the summer (full gear required to get on work property). Fast forward to growing up and buying a house further from work and I missed it enough that I bought another 929 as my second bike. So far i am glad i did.

1983 R65. I lived near the ocean in Marblehead and only had an open garage with a dirt floor. It was starting to corrode so I sold it. For $200 more than I paid for it. It was slow and vibrated a lot, but girls liked it.

The R80 and R100 were better bikes but the R65 had it's fans. I think their value bottomed out a few years ago and is rebounding.

Many years ago, I sold my Suzuki GS750. Loved that bike. Had to sell it to buy a winter cage (financial hard times). Hadn't bought another bike until my current '05 Sportster 883. I'll be selling that for a bigger bike in the spring. I'm sure I'll regret that, one day.

My first street bike and nearly 20k later I got rid of it this summer for the GSX-R. Totally happy with the choice, but part of me reallly wanted to keep that bike forever. Just a great little bike, plenty of zip for around town riding and crazy flickable with those skinny tires. So yeah, not a regret, but wish I could have kept it around. That being said, it was so weak in the knees I actually though I was running on one cylinder when I didn't ride it for a few months... forgot what 35HP felt like lol
I'm planning on upgrading my Sportster to a Victory Hammer this spring. I wish I had the resources and storage space to keep both, because the Sportster is a FUN bike to ride, but I need something bigger for all the highway riding.

    Re: Bikes you regret selling??

I predict that if you sell it, you will get over the loss of that sportster in short time as long as you get another decent bike. They're gateway bikes...they are easy to try, and lead to harder stuff.

You don't, really. Even the smallest Sportsters are big enough to handle any highway, although they won't be very comfortable for long trips. The Hammer is a very good cruiser, though; I expect that you'll enjoy it.

You're correct, the Sportster is OK at 55-65. I'm generally doing a lot more than that, keeping up with fast moving traffic. I want to add a windshield and possibly bags, which create more drag. I could do a full stage 3 upgrade, which would be a fun winter project, to get the added torque I want, but the dollars spent would do better, in my opinion, to just sell the Sporty and add the bucks toward a Hammer. Besides, I really like the huge back tire and the dual 4 piston disks up front. The extra hundred or so pounds would be greatly offset by doubling the torque.

If you haven't yet, you might take a ride on a H-D V-Rod for comparison. I liked the V-Rod a bit better than the Hammer (especially the earlier V-Rod with the 180 rear tire, which handled decently -- the later V-Rod has a 240 rear now, which makes it a bit of a pig).

The only one I miss is my old '01 Victory V92. That was one hell of a nice cruiser. Sad thing is I never had to sell it.

The other bikes I bought and sold were all good bikes, but there was nothing special or irreplaceable about them.
