Machining the gas tank from a 550 lbs. block of aluminum is where I bet a lot of the money went.

SO it's kind of like a Confederate, but not as weird or cool, but just as expensive anyway.

Not just another chopper clone? How ironic that they would say that.

sounds like a winning strategy to me!

step 1: do research on the motorcycle buyers that are rich (because poor people can't afford to buy what you make for them, even if they like it)

step 2: make that bike and charge $78k

    step 3: ???

Doesn't seem to be too much of an advantage to this, no? Unless your goal is to make the bike prohibitively expensive without improving performance or, arguably, aesthetics.

I thought the same thing but the website claims it's a stressed member so a typical sheet metal tank wouldn't work in that application. That being said though, the tank is 18lbs between the two halves. I find it hard to believe that a more traditional frame member plus a sheet metal tank would be any less structurally sound or anywhere near that heavy.
