Talking My latest bling (actually riding pants)

Well, I had the day off today, so I decided to treat myself to new stuff. I know what you're thinking, and no, its not chrome, billet aluminium, or carbon fiber either.

These pants are from Dainese and are the Firefly model. No knee pucks on them, but I don't do track days/ racing, so they're perfect for me. By the way, I picked them up @ Motomarket if anyone is interested.

I'm not sure that they are overpants, I tried them on only wearing my boxers, and they fit snug.

Before tax, they were $480 They had some decent looking First gear pants there as well that were in the $200- $300 range

Secretly, I thought you'd find me more attractive with them

I too hope I never get to see first hand how they perform, but I'm confident that they would do well

I'm not worried at all. I wrecked last year while wearing jeans, so I know that anything more would be an improvement. I feel that this is another instance that falls under the "you get what you pay for" axiom.

well I literally just bought them today, so I don't have much experience to base an answer upon.

That said, they are a deliberately tight fitting leather pant. I certainly would not want to wear these for a day of work. If I were to wear these for a commute, I'd throw some pants in a back pack or tank bag to change into.

They seem that they will be fine for my type of semi-agressive weekend riding where, if I am not riding, I'm sitting down for a quick lunch or just a short break from riding.

Nice.. Dainese rules, you will be happy. Now you just need to get a blue Yamaha, grow curly hair, and start bumping other riders!

I'm not sure that I will be doing any of those any time soon.

(I must admit though, I don't understand your intended comical reference)

Hint... who is plastered all over Dainese marketing, jabbers hilariously in mixed Italian/English, rides a really really fast blue Yammie, and bumped a bitter Spaniard off the track last weekend?

Well I did a short ride of maybe 40 miles or so today with the pants to try to break them in. First, let me share some newly acquired wisdom with you all. Never condition the back of leather pants. They might as well have been soaked in Armor-All (very slippery on the bike seat).

They are surprisingly comfortable, and will be even more so after I break them in a bit more.

My only gripe is this: The pant legs are not wide enough to fit over my riding boots, so obviously I had to zip the boots over the pants. No big deal, except the zippers at the bottom of the pant legs were pressed hard against my leg with the boots fastened. This didn't bother me at first, but by the time I got home, I couldn't wait to get the boots off to relieve the pressure. I need to figure out a way to get the zippers out of the way of the pressure from the boot. Any ideas? What does everyone else do about these zippers? are my pants the only ones to have them on the lower legs?

Well...if your independently wealthy then cool

If you want to keep Dianese in business...also cool

But if your like me...and want to get the best quality for the money - there are cheaper places to shop.

I would be surprised if the Dianese non-track pants are much better if at all than my jr blasters w/1.2 to 1.4mm leather. And they fit/feel excellent. But for less than half the 480 you paid. Just a heads up. I'm sure they are nice...but 480....my god man!

If you can make the same comparison between Dainese and Joe Rocket leather that you can between their textile lines then the pants are probably worth twice as much as Joe Rocket.

I have both Joe Rocket & Dainese Textile gear and there is no comparison, the Dainese stuff IS worth twice as much and I expect to last at least 3x as long.

I am quite sure that the stitching is of a much higher quality on the Dainese than the JR stuff. Check here for a local view on the quality of JR gear. http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...threadid=15543

I have to assume that much more time went into the fitment and comfort of the Dainese than the JRs. I believe there is no comparison.

I want gear that will last a while, not something that will start to come apart after a year or even a few months. I am also a believer that you get what you pay for. My Dainese jacket still looks as good as it did the day I bought it and its even more comfortable now.

By the way, I can't believe that I have to defend Dainese products

you don't have to defend the quality...just the price

    480 for non-track use?

maybe there are quality issues with jr stuff...so far I havn't been bitten with 4 years of use in jr stuff - seeing heavy to moderate use but no track use. well except with a vent zipper on my jacket..zipper was yanked off too far

most of that 480 is heading to a foreign currency and gettn chewed by the exchange rate (I suspect)

they are certainly nice...but I'd buy (2) jr's for the price of one dainese (assuming street/sport riding)

now yur making me wanna go buy some dainese to do a comparo...maybe I been missing out. If I throw my jr's next nice day and something breaks and falls off I will have been converted to the dark side
