A lot of people suggest I get your bike and convert it. Do you think that is a good solution for me or no?

Its nto thtat hard to convert if i did it anyone can, again supermotojunkie was great info for me.
i bought a standard street titled XR
    bought rim and hubs
New brake adapter, (kits from SMJ)
    new SS lines
    New rotor/ pads
    New sprocket
    Tires obviously
Used the standard baja dual kit ( headlight, turn signals)
    1 horn
I added a spacer kit as I wanted to run a wider tire, 150? vers 140 but not necessary
SM front fender ( smaller more aerodynamic)

    That's it.

Re: BMW 1000 RR or Motard (DRZ)

Converting a motard is like building a race bike:

It will cost you more than buying one already done and take more work.

But, you can make it just how you want it, it'll be yours, and you know it was done right (assuming you're a decent wrench).

The ideal case is to buy one already done by someone who is anal/ocd/good mechanic, and you save money and get a good product.

Buying a bike and then tossing several grand into it that you will never recoup is your call, if you enjoy building it then maybe it's worth it to you.

Completely unnecessary for the street and moderately unnecessary for the race track. I run a brembo 320, stock caliper steel braded brake line and a master off a yfz quad and its good enough for open am wins (on a actual sm track not loudon). 0 fade and enogh power to front flip on demand. I suppose a big fancy caliper could provide more feel but unless you're a hardcore pro there's no need, specially for the money.

    I wholeheartedly agree with you.

My bike came with it when I bought it. Consider me spoiled.

Apparently BMW is actually working on a quasi-GS that uses the S1000R engine:

Their answer to the Multistrada. About as close to an S1000 motard as you're going to get. Might be of interest.

Re: BMW 1000 RR or Motard (DRZ)

The DRZ is a nice bike and I like my wr250x quite a bit.

I like the idea of a wr450f converted to SM, but I live in MA and my understanding is that it would be a PITA to get it plated if someone hadn't already done so.

I suggested KTM 690 because it weighs about the same as a DRZ, maintenance is dual sport intervals & not race bike or even enduro intervals, and it has a ton of power. It also has 6 gears. Maybe that's not an issue for some, but I'm always looking for 7th on my WR and can't imagine having only 5. To me the only downside of the 690 is price, but he was already signing up for an S1000RR

It's a little high... those are 2k wheels and a 1k exhaust system.

Then again the bike is a 2005 and he is unrealistically hoping to recoup those heavy cost mods.

If he really wanted to, selling the wheels seperately might be a good idea.

He says no low balls but might be worth a shot. it's a 9 year old bike.

I would never want to ride a street tard with 2k wheels. The whole point of street tarding is 0 fucks given. Hop curbs, dart down that random set of powerlines you drive by everyday, and jump of whatever random crap you can find. Having marchesinis would just give me something to be worried about breaking.

2013 suzuki DRZ 400 SM supermoto - $6000 (Groveton, NH)

This is my 2013 Suzuki DRZ 400sm. This is a great supermoto bike. I added a full FMF system and some hand guards. It has the powerbomb header and powercore 4 pipe. This bike has a whopping 250 miles on it and has been garage kept. It is in perfect condition. I just have no time to ride. I love to ride but never get a chance. My loss can be your gain.

Looks like the one I had stolen from me. $5k for the '05 would be a smoking deal!
