    Bolt info needed

    '05 SV1000s

I have a TL1000 shift arm on my bike but that doesn't really matter. I need the info on the bolt that retains the shift arm. The shifter connects to the linkage and the linkage connects to the arm. The arm is splined and has a bolt to hold it in place. That bolt is the one I need.

TL1000 or SV1000. Probably a whole slew more too.

I know I used the original bolt from the SV in the T1000 shift arm so they both fit.

Let me know when ever you look it up. I need the dimensions or a part number. Preferably dimensions and thread pitch so I can just grab one any where. Thanks man.

Why couldn't you just take the foot shifter with you down to a hardware store and match something up? It's not like you need a special bolt or anything.

Cause then I have to take the thing off and then readjust the linkage length when I put it back on. If anyone has the info easily accessible I'd rather get the specs, then buy it, throw it in and owe someone a beer.

Grab a maker, draw a line from the center of the shaft outwards, making sure you go over the shifter. Tada, reference point established for identical reinstall. : )

Oh really? That's all I need, thanks Suzuki. I'll go to Home Depot later and pick up a "BOLT". Damn.

Kurlons method is great but it doesn't address the linkage length. I know where it fits on the shaft by looking at it. No problem though, just didn't want to disassemble it to get a bolt if I could get the info. Ja know?

I think the 25mm may stick out... the 20mm will be plenty long to get enough bite to stay on (whichever size you use, I rec. loctite).

Also, opposed to the hex head in degs' link, I say stick to flanged hex head... 95% (from my ass) of the one's I've seen are flanged....

Wait until you get the bolt and fit it. I'm 99% sure that's the one. Available from any home depot or lowes for a buck or so. I went with 25mm. It MIGHT be a 20, can't remember but 25 will be ok and you can replace with a 20 later if you want.

...and Kitt takes the lead with the beer! It is a flanged head bolt that goes in there.

If you guys want to fight to the death for the rights to the beer that's cool too.

    Thanks for the help guys!

trust, im not picky.. I fish for what works, and sometimes just go with what "almost works" (thanks to ownign a racebike my standards have gone way down)...

This guy seemed like he wanted the EXACT one, flanged heads provide a better "lock" as they require a bit more torque to break loose, and they also prevent your tool, or corners of the hex head from gouging out the soft aluminum bits.

edit: degs can have the beer, and I doubt you'll find a flanged m6 at lowes or home depot... fastenal or mail order from mcmaster.
