    Boot Fit

Just got a pair of Gaerne GP1s in the mail, was suggested by a guy on another forum. It's my first full boot, & I'm a little worried about the fit though. Very loose on my calves unless I have leathers tucked into them, but I'm more worried about the ankle. I usually wear Sidi Streetburners & these have an ankle strap, so I had that thing on tight. These boots just have the zipper up the side & then a ratchet system at the top. The ankle feels very loose in comparison. Is this normal? How snug should these boots fit me? The foot size is perfect, but I'm not sure if the rest adds up. Could be just my unfamiliarity with the style of boot though. I'm used to all the straps and whatnot on the sidis.

I promise I'll be done asking questions soon.

    Thanks again.

    Re: Boot Fit

Every make and model of boot will fit different people in different ways. I have a pair of Sidi boots that I bought used which seem a little big in the foot, but fine in the calf and ankle areas. I also bought two pairs of Dainese boots one from Cycle Gear in Manchester CT and another from Paul @ Motormarket. Those boots fit mne perfect in every way, to the point that I don't even mind walking around in them all day.

This is a great example of why I will miss being able to try on various boot styles and sizes at Motomarket and buy them there. You still have hope. Go to see Patricia @ Seacoast or find another worthy retailer who can help you find boots that fit you properly, just be prepared to return the favor by buying them from that retailer.

That's why I like boots with some sort of lacing system like the A*s Supertech R. Way better fit over the top of my ankle. Feel like it gives much better support.
Knock on wood I've never had an ankle injury with alpinestars. I've had a bruised calf but that's it.

    Re: Boot Fit

My Sidi's are big in the calf too. They're made to fit over leathers/riding pants. I think most race-style boots are like this. Boots that are more geared toward street will fit tighter in the calf, being made to wear under pants. As for the ankle, not sure. I think moreso than being tight on the ankle, they are supposed to stop the foot from overextending in directions it's not supposed to.

    Re: Boot Fit

Oh yeah- the calf makes sense to me. I would only wear these with leathers anyway. Keeping the Streetburners for around town stuff. So is the tightness more of a preference thing then? Or is it safer to have them tighter there?
