what do you guys recommend for everyday riding boots/shoes?
any suggestions?
my doc's are wearing out, and id like to replace them with something better.
thanks,
Mike
Sidi vertebra race boots. Seriously, even if riding in jeans, wear proper riding boots. They have proper ankle support to stop you breaking your foot off in a crash.
derek
I like the non-race stuff with internal armor.. slightly less protective, more comfortable, more likely to be waterproof.
Gore-tex + boots =![]()
ive thought of the vertebra's too. they are on my list of possibles.
how are they to walk around in when you are off the bike??
they just seem a little over kill for what i want.
like if im wearing them, i should be wearing full leathers with knee pucks at the track- not jeans riding around on the street.
not that thats a bad thing, i just want to see what else is out there too, maybe something a little less flashy.
thanks,
Mike
I have to admin, the vertebras are HELL to walk about in. I predominantly ride trackdays, not street, so i put up with them. I would agree with Ben that there are more supple boots out there that are waterproof and very protective. Daytona makes a very good waterproof boot. i think they are quite pricey though, although they will resole them for you if needed.Originally posted by hooligan

Yah several of us have Daytonas, they are awesome.
Expensive is all relative... Daytonas are expensive compared to riding around in Nikes or Flip Flops but they are less expensive then many of the race boots and are in line with a good pair of hiking boots.
I think mine were about $200. With the amount of time a pair of good boots last I don't think that's excessive. The last pair of $200 boots (not MC boots) I had I wore for 10 years and they were still plenty functional they just looked worn and I was getting crap from people to buy new boots.
What size do you take because I have a pair of Sidis for sale that have 2 track days and about 400 miles on them. And they are in great shape.Originally posted by hooligan

i wear a size 10, i dont know what that equates to in euro sizes... like 44 or so maybe.
Yes, size 10 is about a 44, but I'd recommend you try them on before you buy for obvious reasons.
i always wear my Alpinestars SMX Plus boots on the street, but they squeak & they're not the most comfortable for long days cuz of the thin sole.
I love em, definitely the most comfortable boots out of all the ones i've tried, but i have yet to try the Sidi's... i think those are the next track boots i'll get... If i don't get some street boots as well i'll just wear em on the street, too. I don't often do much walking when i ride street so it works alright for me... if i'm gonna do some walking i'll throw my sneakers in my tank bag & put my boots somewhere safe.

I have the Alpinestar smx's as well. I've got about 3 seasons in them and love them. The do squeek a bit, and I wouldn't take a hike in them. But have no problem spending the day on the bike with them and the usual walking around that happens on gas up/ food breaks.
The ones I have are Sidi size 45 which is a 10/10.5Originally posted by hooligan

No way... those sandals are dangerous... way too many straps for me... if you crash, one of the straps could catch on a guard rail or something & rip your foot right off... no thanks... i prefer something that'll immediately fly off if i crash, minimizing the risk that my feet will get yanked off the ends of my legs. I like my feet where they are, thanks
