    Boston to Austin

March is my 40th birthday, thinking of riding down to Austin for the race in April. Has anyone ever done that ride? How many days does it need to be completed without slabbing it the whole way?

I've driven (not ridden) back from the race, and it's a lot of highway time. You could break it up with the Blue Ridge National Parkway, which I didn't do, or the Cherohala Skyway, which I did do. Well worth the detour, but still, it's a lot of miles.

I was in a rush and did it in 25hrs and 22mins with 2 short breaks. I detoured through the Gap and blue ridge parkway. Arkansas has good scenic routes. Then back roads through NE Dallas, then through the hill country from Waco to Austin.

There a lot of good roads if you have more time.

    Re: Boston to Austin

I've been thinking about riding down them myself. I haven't done it before, but I'm making progress on convincing my partner to "let me" do it. I did a very quick estimate of how long it would take if I did a mix of slab and twisty backroads, without extreme time on the saddle (I'm no Iron Butt'er). Including the return trip, I estimated I'd need between a week and half to two (including Fri-Mon in Austin). It'd include backroads through Virginia, North Carolina, then again in Arkansas, and some in Texas. That was a very rough mental route with some help from Google maps, but I plan on putting a detailed route together at some point - I'll post it here once I have it.

I have friends in Summersville its nice roads are good, even some expressways through the mountains are amusing

this is good accept statistically you will have 2 rain days, if you time it right you can be in Motels
