So, I sent my radar detector back to passport last week for a"tune up"
so I have been riding all weekend with out it, and behaving for the most part. Leah went out shopping with a friend today so I decided to do some exploring, and it paid off, I found a great addition to a loop I already have, I'll host a ride later once it warms up a bit and the rain has a chance to wash the sand off the roads.
After a lunch stop in Barre I headed for home, came around the corner at the intersection of 32 and 122, an old guy in a big caddy begins to pull out in front of me from the supermarket, I locked up the rear trying to avoid him, luckily he stopped, so I take off and start accelerating the speed limit there is 25 by the time I saw the local cop on the hill I was doing 40 ish. Luckily I grab a hand full of brake and he didn't pull out. ( saved $150 ) and then on rt 67 south its wide open sweeping corners, it just begs you to go fast but the limit is 40. But I was doing 70+ By the time I acknowledged the fact that it was a state cop coming at me with no lights on the roof, I grabbed a fist full of brakes . He flashed the head lights at me and gave me the slowdown hand motion I waved kindly and put putted the rest of the way home. (saved another $300) . Man I need to get that radar detector back soon.

Believe it or not I did wash the bikes when we got home yesterday but after riding on the road to and from my house you wouldn't know it.

I have been getting false laser both in my truck and on the bike, usually if I accelerate quickly or sound the horn on either vehicle. plus my power cord tip broke. Its out of warranty but they said they think they new what the problem was and could fix it, I think it has something to do with an RF filter or something. Its going to be $49.95 .

I assume they will send it back with some sort of report on what they did to it. I'll keep you posted.

I guess my Irish luck is good for something.

As for the radar, it would have all depended on wether or not they were using instant on or not, and not having the detector, I didn't know the difference.

Nice start to the season for you. Now let that be a leason to ya, don't ride without a radar detector!

I got lucky this afternoon. My rental car is not anything fast at all, (Chevy HHR) but I was going down a hill that banks to the right. I was going a bit over the posted next to a minivan that was also going pretty quick.
Well on the other side of this bend was a friendly Local California cop with a speed trap. Well I was able to slow down fast enough, or at least faster than the minivan! He got bagged!!! Haha!

I almost brought my Valentine. I kinda wish I did now..

So I sent m passport 8500 out for repair. I was getting a lot of false laser under hard excelleration. My power cord phone jack end was broken.

Being out of warranty the repair cost was $49.95 and I had to pay to ship it out to them , they paid to ship it back.

What they did.
replaced the laser sensor unit
new power cord
recalibrated the unit
new plastic shell
new window clip /w suctioncups
new velcro.
and shipping

All for $49.95

I haven't tried it out yet but they seemed to bend over backward to keep us happy. But thats the type of service you expect when you pay $300 for a radar detector right?

it really amazes me when people dont stand behind their products. all it takes is one transaction, and one post to a web forum to win over long-term customers...and in the end that is better for everyone.

but more important, Sean, when are you and that little device of yours leading a ride again?

I'm not sure you're gonna wanna take your R1 on the types of rides Sean will be riding this year.... in fact I don't even think the radar detector will be needed

Well I will be doing more street riding this year as leah has a new street bike, but the pace will be a bit more on the mello side. not saying we will obey every traffic law but tripple digits won't be seen.

As for leading a ride, probably when the roads clear up a bit there is still a lot of sand out my way, and while we are comfortable riding on it, not too many people are too keen on sport biks and sandy roads.

I did find some new paved twisties out my way to add to the loop.

So I guess we will hafe to get the chores done during the week in the summer so we can ride dual sports one weekend day and street bikes on the other.
