Brapping my 701 through a golf course is a much-needed outlet for at least one old person, yet here we are.
Still looking to learn to wheelie without fucking my shit up, btw. Every time a kid gives me the "rip it" gesture and I fail to deliver, I stray further from the way.

Yup. I'd totally be much better at wheelies if I could learn on a stolen bike I didn't give a shit about.

I'm glad we're finally taking this thread in a productive direction.

F'real...I've said this so many times, but if some kid was genuinely interested in learning to ride, I would have given it to them.

Seizure of illegal dirt bikes, ATVs, and motorcycles has risen in New York this year as part of a public safety push by the mayor, who assumed office on January 1, 2022. According to a statement by New York Police Department Commissioner Keechant Sewell, "Since January the NYPD has seized over 2000 of these vehicles citywide. As the mayor said, that's nearly over 80 percent more than we took by this time last year."

Was it ever publicized whether or not they even attempted to get the stolen ones back to their rightful owners?

Was there ever any source to any of these being stolen? They crushed 30, they seized 2000 this year.

The headline states 900 were crushed, then a little deeper it says 100, then 30. Terrific journalism, no doubt. Not that it matters how many were crushed anyway. By "illegal", I assumed they meant stolen. Otherwise, what prevented those bikes from being legal? A state inspection and/or registration? I'm sure a good deal of them were indeed stolen.

No insurance is likely #1 reason. No insurance or reg = impound.
As far as seizure I don't know. No proof of ownership? But that would imply stolen? Who knows.

I keep forgetting insurance is a requirement in many states. But even then, that would also be a simple remedy I'd think.

Found the 2020 article on them doing the same thing btw

The bikes, which were confiscated on city streets, were deemed unfit to be auctioned off and not claimed by the owners.
“We send a registered letter and then we give them 15 days, according to state law to contact us to identify if they own the vehicle or to prove ownership. If ownership is not proved or we can't identify the true owner then that vehicle gets cleared for destruction,” said Deputy Commissioner Robert Martinez with the NYPD Support Services Bureau.

It seems to me that getting a little $$$ from an Argo type place and letting them part them out might make sense.

I'd be inclined to agree, but the problem with that is you'd potentially give some shady ass businesses incentive to abuse that type of system.
