I mean, it’s no KDX, but it’s probably still fun I suppose...

The bike looks so clean compared to your truck.
Sweet bike!!!

I would lean more toward a dirtbike thats street legal than a true dual sport. I dont ride on the street much, but it would be nice to go on a cruise every now and then to scratch the itch. Id take it to work a lot which is like 15 miles.
it's also nice to get where yer gonna ride without trucking/trailering and leaving a vehicle unattended

I looked at the Beta 500 a little, it looks SO much better, but ultimately went with the KTM. I really like Betas a lot though.

Lol, I have about 10 miles on it now. The gauges didn't work at first, but I looked around and found a plug disconnected and after I plugged it in the gauges now work.
I do need to set the sag, but man does it ride nice! I took it easy for a little bit, but the few times I got on it I was really impressed with the power!! The Honda 450L or whatever it is I rode was a little underwhelming when it came to power, but not this thing! You don't need to pop the clutch or yank at all to get the front tire up, even leaning forward it will wheelie on dirt pretty easy. Its pretty muddy already as the ground is very soft here (we still have a little snow).
I have had the CEL come on like 3 times now, but it has been when I am chugging along at 4mph for extended periods because my 6 year old was riding with me on his KDX50. These are supposed to be pretty lean from the factory so I hope its just a combo of slowspeed running hot at like idle. I turn the key off and back on and it goes out. Ill keep an eye on it for sure.
It is crazy light at 240 lbs!!!
Ordered an Acerbis skid plate today.
Haven't found any mirrors I like yet. I was hoping for bar end, but I think that might be a bad idea off road.
Super happy with it though, no buyers remorse at all.
Only think I don't like, is that the gauge is tiny/a joke, and it is pretty bland/boring looking. I wish the frame was orange like the 6 days edition. The grey plastic is bland, and there's a tiny KTM logo, and a tiny 500 logo. Its just not super exciting to look at.

Buddy has an orange frame on his 1290 Super Adventure R. After a year of riding it's pretty ugly with all the scuff marks, dings and dirt.
A dark frame might not be great to look at, but it almost always looks clean.

Re: Bouncing around the idea of selling the RC51 and getting a plated dirtbike
I’ve used the Bikemaster and Ken Sean folding mirrors on previous bikes. Will probably get a pair for the DR650 too.
Once you figure out how to get them adjusted right, their visibility is pretty good and they fold out of the way pretty easily if you’re going off-road. Supposedly there’s no-name ones that are cheaper but shittier quality.
The Doubletake mirrors are the way to go if you want to spend more money on indestructible ones.

yeah, the 500 is supposed to be a sweet bike ... but wouldn't recommend the chassis for a taller/bigger rider like yourself, they are low and better suited to average height and down.

Sweeeeet. Set the sag if you haven’t . Probably need bigger springs at some point.

I just got around to adjusting the levers tonight, throttle tube was less than finger tight to the bars....
I do need to do the sag next, they told me 2.5". It's gonna need some turns to get to that...

Yea. Check the book. It will have all the recommended settings. I never listen to the dealers.

Actually. My old 300 doesn’t tell sag in manual. 1290 does. Here is what factory connection recommended. 120mm though that’s non linkage rear shock. Check their website.
