Branching out to new tracks questions...

Yeah I know it's only January, but with nothing but a looooong tax season in front of me I'm looking ahead to help me get through it. Now that there is more than just NHMS within driving distance I plan on ranging out this summer and hitting NJ, NY and CT in addition to Ol' Short and Bumpy. I heard a rumor that NJ has it's own specs - only red cans for gas and helmets with Snell approval (so I can't use my AGV GP Tech with is DOT but not Snell). I need a new helmet anyway and Cycle Gear has white utility jugs on sale...

I want a new AGV but not if I can only use it in NH. Is there any weight to the story about NJ? Does any of that carry over to CT? NY? Anything else gear-wise that I need to know?

Re: Branching out to new tracks, gear differences?

Red can is true in jersey, i speak from experience. I tried once getting gas on a yellow jug (diesel) and gas station would not pump into it.

The SnellM2005 or newer i thought was everywhere though wrther it be racing or just trackdays...i think now its 2010 even, but i could be wrong

    Trackdays or racing?

the helmet I think is down to whoever you are riding with. your current helmet if not a polycarbonate is probably good for just about every org because its probably ECE/BSI certified which most orgs are starting to accept as an alternative to Snell.

and yes on the red gas approved can in NJ. you aren't allowed to pump your own gas so you can't really get around it. you can transfer it to any can you want after you buy it.

I mean...maybe I can, but there is a lot of footage and I have to watch it ALL to find it. I start and stop but haven't come across it yet.

Re: Branching out to new tracks questions...

I asked this question just a couple weeks ago about helmet certifications, particularly regarding AGV. The LRRS rule book for 2013 stated that the European certification of ECE was good. It probably is up to each race organization and/or track/track day organization. I need to check out CT requirements as I'm right in the middle of them and NHMS.

I too want to get an AGV helmet and need to make sure I get an universal helmet for all tracks.

Re: Branching out to new tracks questions...

A little looking will get you a long way. From Tony's website:

"At the NJ track, a SNELL 2000 or 2005 helmet is required. This is a NJ state law (one that we do not agree with, by the way!). At the New Hampshire track, an UNDAMAGED, full-faced helmet with DOT, SNELL, or BSI rating. A high-quality "flip up" type helmet will also be allowed in the RED group only."

The AGV GP-Tech is DOT and ECE-22.05 certified, NOT Snell, so no NJ. I'm not sure about NY or CT.

We need to update that a little. While we don't check dates, Snell 2005 would be the oldest I would ride with.

    Tony,

Any similar Snell compliance issues in NY, CT or Palmer?

For our trackdays, we just want to see a late model helmet in excellent condition... That fits properly!

We accept any of the standards... Snell, ece, etc

Proper fit is really the most important... Make sure it touches all parts of your head, cheeks.

I heard from someone who is normally in the know that they were or were about to open it to motos. That's as much as I've heard.

BTW, AGV's online store has select GP-Tech lids on sale for $499 and free shipping.

So... YES, I apparently missed something.

Last I knew, it was a car deal and everyone was trying to get them to open their eyes to us two-wheeled folks.
