Seeing as I recently did this, and am happy with my choice, I voted sport standard. My Hyperstrada straddles the sport tour, and motard worlds as well. Kinda it's own segment in a way.

Don't want to steal this thread, how do you like your Hyperstrada? Fueling is fine? A bike I have been considering...pretty light for what looks like a nice all rounder. Reminds me of my '08 FZ8 only better in every way

I picked Sport Standard, but Sport Tour would be really where I would want to be. I've never owned a Ducati but want to, so I would probably force myself into one of thier offerings, perfect or not.

Good assessment. My only complaint was the grabby clutch (affects 13 and earlier). But I have a revised clutch kit waiting to go in this spring. The bike is a weapon, and really comfy for me anyway.

I'd be leaning towards a sport tourer, like a Multi.

Well, not "like" a Multi... I mean, if I were buying a new bike it would absolutely be a Multi S, with factory bags

The Multi S is a positively fantastic ride. Does triple digits with complete ease.. on anything. And sounds awesome doing it.

I clicked sport-standard, leaning more towards Standard though. I would buy my Bonneville T100 again if I were to ride the street again. That was a perfect machine for me

We all know I'm not actually going to ride it. Just own it and brag about it.

I'm currently drinking the adventure bike kool-aid. Loads of features and capabilities packed into one machine. I think of it like the SUV of the moto-world: practical enough to comfortably pack (almost) whatever you want, go (almost) wherever you want, yet still have some fun when the road gets interesting.

I'm on the fence between sport standard and Adventure. Both have appealing traits that I would want in a street bike. My 701 would be more on the sport standard side of things but the adventure bike would be far more useful to me for day to day use.

I'd probably drink the kool-aid and give a Multi a shout. Would really need to spend time on a few to find the one that speaks to me. I love the looks of the enduro, and as I'm going to be rocking my new-to-me VFR800 5th gen for a while on Sport Tour duty it would fill the void better. Would have to ride the AfricaTwin first too.

Re: Brand New Bike - What Kind?

After landing a new job with a significant increase and nearing the payoff of my last vehicle, I am suffering from irrational debt withdrawal syndrome that feels like it must be replaced with a new bike purchase. My top new bike considerations:

    Aprilia Tuono Factory
    701SM
    701E
    KTM 1090R

Pretty different spectrum of what they all can do. I made the mistake of test riding a '17 Tuono factory and can't get help but feel like it is the perfect bike. But I've also been wanting to get into some sumo action with a kart course being about an hour away, and finally my most irrational is the adventure segment which I know will never actually "adventure" or get enough time to take significant trips. It's a nice thought though.

I think the Svartpilen/Vitpilen are so sexy. I'm not doing anything until the 701 comes out.

Put a deposit down on a 2017 Tuono Factory this week. I considered the Husky 701...but landed on the Tuono.

Those are pretty different things, both both awesome. What made you choose the Aprilia?

Maintenance schedule, ability to take my wife on the back and raw power. I owned an SXV many years back and loved it, for sure, but my favorite bike ever was the Ducati Streetfighter (1098). In the end, I decided to return to that formula. The Tuono seemed to be the best bike for that. Too bad Ducati abandoned the 1098 Fighter. I suppose they figured the market for a streetfighter style bike with that much engine was too narrow.

Honestly I think it just overlaps too much with the Monster 1200. One is a super naked....the other is a super naked with slightly more fairings.

I think their thought was that the Monster segment takes over the Streetfighter. The 1200R & S are fun to ride and I hear they are all around improvements on the street fighter platform which on the flip side I never got seat time on. But there is definitely something about the design of the street fighter that is much more enticing than the cruiser-y designed monsters.

I too am very close to moving on the '17 Factory. There's only one left as far as inventory around here and the '18s are coming in shortly with a $500 hike and no changes. I just keep struggling with the internal battle of my focus this season, which is likely to be track. The Tuono is a perfect street bike but I am riding the street less and less. Also don't know if I want to give up the RSVR Factory for it or keep both.
