I thought that motorcycles, like cars, stayed away from carbon parts, due to the fact that when they fail, it's more often than not, a catastrophic failure.

I was really thinking that wesvailco had some revolutionary information to bring to the table. The whole wide bars and sticky tire bit really had me scratching my head because I've learned from extensive reading that those are the exact things that WOULD cause headshake.

I think they are good bikes, they just need a damper! Anyway, those are both SIIICK sets of wheels Duey. I like the non carbon ones a little better...

champ in the 1200cc class you mean? Look at the big picture, dirtbikes ran the course faster and quads at nearly the same time. Sorry the bike is a piece of shit.

I didn't say that they did not make it (ergo the question form of the post), I just thought that generally, parts like rotors and wheels were made out of various other materials. The reason they don't use carbon / ceramic parts for any auto racing (even though they use it for street cars) is that when a carbon / ceramic rotor fails, it's a catastrophic failure (complete shatter of the rotor) vs something like a steel one typically just cracks, but is still somewhat functional and intact.

Not to be argumentative here (sorry about the headache) but most sportbikes (save a few and even those only recently) do not come with dampers. That why the aftermarket companies sell them.

To say that because a bile did not come equipped with it means it would not benefit from one as a safety feature is simply misguided at best.

BTW. I'm still waiting for a response to demonstrate your professional suspension setup skills.

i am not convinced either...i think a steering dampner would definitely have helped in this case.

Sorry 'bout the crash, but looks like you've got more plans for the bike. But did I read right? He said to try and stop the wobble he pushed back over the seat? Wouldn't that make it worse?

yeah I've got some plans for it, mind as well since I need to replace so many cosmetic items

I probably worded it incorrectly but what I meant was pushed towards the back of the seat. I've always been told when the front wobbles best thing to do is get as much weight off the front tires as possible and this has always worked for me and in this recent incident I did what I could to the best of my abilities, in the end it is what it is....

Would a damper have helped me avoid the incident? Maybe, most likely anyway. Would it have hurt to have one, definitely not.

    Cam,

If you're referring to the BST cf wheels, then that discussion can go either way. Carbon can fail in a catastrophic manner but same thing can be said for mag or forged aluminum too. Over the years I've sold a few of the BST and Dynamag CF wheels and the only time I've seen them first hand fail was when a set of the BST's hit a curb and even then my guess that a forged/cast wheel would have been damaged beyond repair too.

and I struck out on that deal MV's rear axle size is different than my hyper. Really wish those wheels could have fit, price was just right.

We can definitely meet up someday and go for a ride once she's back on the road .

-most sport-bikes sold today with CLIP-ON style bars, have them. bikes sold with dirt-style bars do not.

-not a professional, but can set-up a bike. again, my triumph is a very stable bike, too perfect up front. only running out of adjustment in the rear. been bounced a couple of times. I've got showa's figured out, have them on both bikes. could probably show you a thing or two.

How many times do I have to say it? That's because bikes with dirtbike bars TYPICALLY have a shallower rake angle and larger triple camp offset which makes for more trail and a more stable front end, THUS MINIMIZING THE NEED FOR A DAMPER.

Wider bars are there for two things... Ergonomics and to allow you to make stronger bar inputs into a bike with a more stable front end, making for greater controlability. Wider bars have NOTHING to do with front end stability. That's all to do with the GEOMETRY of the front end.

My tuono has big ole dirtbike bars but comes equipped with a stock steering damper. Riddle me that. Hint: it's because my Tuono is essentially an RSV Mille with dirtbike bars... same exact geometry. Steep rake angle and a flatter triple clamp offset.

I suggest you pick up a book on motorcycle design and geometry and stop trolling.
