can a brand new ktm 200 xc-w be registered as street legal in MA?

asking for a guy on another forum...is it possible to register a brand new ktm 200 xc-w (2 stroke) in MA if the COO doesn't say anything like "for off-road use only" on it?...he's only interested in the paperwork end of it, not the inspection process

i know you can't get a title in VT cause it's under 300cc so it would either have to go the South Dakota or New Hampshire route...but is it possible to walk into a Mass RMV with his COO and register it?...if not what is the reason that he won't be able to?...i didn't think it was possible to do in Mass but i don't have an answer as to why it's not possible and i've never tried to do it so i figured i'd ask here for him...thanks

Meh. There's a difference in grief and no

Sound's like 'bub's issue was something to do with the odometer, but I don't know any more than was in his post.

Yes it can. Same as any other brand new motorcycle.

Edit: ***they MIGHT give you some grief. But there's been no upheaval because the loophole has been closed. Walking out with a plate SHOULD be no problem whatsoever. Making the bike inspection ready is up to you.

Treat it like any other new motorcycle and you should be fine.

Re: can a brand new ktm 200 xc-w be registered as street legal in MA?

My machine is not new. My funny bidness was because the previous owner ran an aftermarket speedometer/odometer for 98% of the bikes life. The factory speedo/odo that I have was delivered to me in a zipper bag at the bottom of a giant box of parts. It said '12'. Which isn't even close to right. But whatever, it's a dirt bike with a plate. I don't care. But the state does. PO arguably checked the wrong box on the title when he signed it over to me. Confusion ensued.

I have since been issued a title.

None of this applies at all to the OP since he has a brand new machine with a correct odometer.
