Re: Brand Matter or just Preference?
What's your number? I'm going to sell you some knives, and an aluminum roof. Roof comes with optional warranty if you buy now. If you don't own a place, it's ok. We let you put it on lay-away

Yep I have always bought my vehicles from dealers aside from my first car which I bought from a family member.
My hesitance at-first to buy used (in the city) is partially impacted by the fact that I am from the sticks (VT) and from what I have seen since I have been in the city find it hard to know when I can trust people :)
As for buying used in VT, I didn't want to pull on someone else's problems as during the time I lived there my cars were not great but beaters :) up there people try to drive the cars into the ground before trading up :)
Without first-hand knowledge and 100% honesty anyone could sell me a bike that looked good and they used bubblegum to hold an internal part in place lol. That's kinda far fetched but I think yall get the point.
That is the sole reason I have gone to dealers for my bikes until now.

Re: Brand Matter or just Preference?
Buy a CBR F4i, fast enough, more comfortable and reliable. The link below has a few clean examples and the guy is located on the MA/NH line.

So could a dealer.
And before you start saying that a dealer will stand behind what they sell, all the dealers I know of who sell used bikes sell them as-is.

maybe you should buy a bike from CyclePros in Bridgewater then.
they re-welded the aluminum swingarm & covered it up with c/f heel guards. not a single fastener for the bodywork was the same (or the right kind). they sold my friend a bike, not knowing it had a PCIII in it.
they sell bikes at a rate that even you'd be skeptical about.

I trust a private sale bike more than a used dealer bike....

Exactly. I KNOW the dealer isn't being 100% truthful (often due to sheer ignorance of the product being sold), while a private sale can go either way. If you don't trust the person or the bike, you simply walk away.

you know, i have to say - Jcrawford has taken all the punishment and come back smiling every time. despite his flaws, that's pretty admirable. i'd have told most people to go screw by now. :spit:

Re: Brand Matter or just Preference?
Am I the only one that buys a bike by saying "I have $X,XXX to spend and I want a _____" then goes out to find a clean one for a good price?
I've never done so much research in my life, hell I bought a bike on my lunch break one time. Find something that looks promising, if you don't know what to look for bring someone who does, buy it if it looks good. Bring it home, go through it pretty carefully and boom, you've got the bike you want and nothing to worry about.
EDIT: I've been screwed by the dealer financing thing before, probably because of this theory haha. Now that I've learned my lesson I'd just go to a credit union for a loan if I were to go the financing route.

Re: Brand Matter or just Preference?
i don't know what i can add to this after 8 pages, but take a step back, take your time, and find yourself a good deal. If i were you, i'd be looking for cheap bikes that i wouldn't be heartbroken to crash or scratch, and ones that crash well and cheaply...
you can definitely find something that fits all those criteria

It's been mentioned a few times in here but I don't think I could even sell you my gixxer. You'd be dead in a wk and I might feel bad. May save alotta bandwidth for nesr though.

If you could that would be great, and I would appreciate it. Underhill VT is a bit far for me to drive without knowing the bike is in good shape :)
