    Brush with collision

Well I will be short as opposed to my rambling self given I have but a minute here....

Just coming home from work, came down a long off ramp with 2 lanes, saw left was congested so went to right, found myself going about 25. Had front brake covered and running to right half of right lane. Black Altima cuts into right lane without signal, not enough space to make it between that and a guardrail. Used front brake to brake as much as possible while focusing on a hole in case I couldn't make it. Did a 15' long endo with rear wheel about 1' off ground. Got bike stopped in time, caught up with motorist and gave her a polite talking to about almost running me down and you need to look.

    Lessons learned:
    ----
    Covering front brake - good

Practicing stoppies in closed environment so you don't freak out in real situation - helps / good

You get really strong in a crisis - enough to stoppie with 2 fingers on brake lever - scary

There is no time for thinking in a crisis, all instinct based actions

Could have prevented this by cutting speed in half, would have reduced stopping distance. Net gain by going 25 down a 400' onramp, maybe 5 seconds if that. Net loss if getting caught up in that mess could have been a crushed leg or worse.

I feel competent for not getting into a crash but learned the wise rider would have not gotten in the situation in the first place.

    Ride safe!

    Nice job...

Nice to see someone deconstruct the situation & find a recommendation for their own behavior to prevent it in the future...

Great job saving yourself and letting the motorist know they were a jackass for almost taking your life.

    Nice evaluation of the situation!

    Keep the good skills alive!
    Lets all go practice Stoppies!

    Glad you are ok.

I can't do an Endo for the life of me.

Kind of ironic, just came back from a work event at a recreational park...strained my elbow in the batting cage of all places! Escaped the perils of sure disaster only to be overcome by a bad swing! Hope this goes away before next tuesday's track day

If you can't do an endo BTW, you can do one of two things - practice in a parking lot or other safe haven, or wait until a disaster situation happens, if you don't lock the front wheel you'll end up lofting the rear. Practicing how to do little endo good I think, if only to know what to expect when it happens in case you run into a jam. Of course if i had covered rear I would have stopped without the stunt, or maybe locked rear wheel instead.

Thanks for the thoughts on my own assesment of the situation! If only I could find those Vicodin from my wisdom teeth job now.....

Actually T3 at Loudon is great place to learn, especially coming up on a rider who decides to park it.

Same, I love to practice hard braking. Plus I think it confuses people to see me throw on the binders full force in the middle of a straight road for absolutely no reason.

Came in handy today. Was coming quick around a blind right hander, right half and center of lane was completely covered in sand, stood the bike up for a brief second, shaved off some speed, leaned it back over and picked a clean line through the corner and had no problem. Happened so fast I was actually surprised my reaction was as good as it was.

Nice to see that you had your head in it the whole time and didn't panic. I'm curious as to exactly how polite you were to her

It was a bit of a rolling discussion, at about 20 MPH. I said hey you almost hit me, she appeared horrified, I said don't worry I am here and OK but next time please look, OK? She said OK then she banged a U turn a bit later. I don't know if she saw me or otherwise but I don't think she was out to cause an accident any more than me going too fast was trying to create one.
