BS Motorcycle owner wanna be experience

So I was out at lunch today and needed to get some petrol for the commute home this evening. I figure while I'm at the gas station I should prolly top off the oil. I typically keep a few quarts in the car as it is. I am jostling around some stuff in the back seat of the car Looking for my oil. A few of the items are my Helmet (in its bag) and my riding boots. (I was supposed to go for a ride with some friends last weekend but alas it never happened. )

I took my helmet and placed it on the top of my car so that I could get to the quart of valvoline that had slid under the passenger seat.

A friendly enough guy prolly early 20's is at the pump next to me fueling his mad pimpin' TSX with gawdy 18" chrome ornaments that have taken place of the stock wheels.

He simply asks; "You ride?" I look up having successfully located my oil and reply; "Yes" He then asks me what I ride. I tell him that I am between bikes but my last ride was my Aprilia.

He then says. "Oh, I ride too." Being polite I say, "Oh cool! What do you ride." He says, "Its a Yamaha." I reply with a simple "Nice" I ask him what kind of Yammy he rides and his answer is " A 950." 950? I think to myself. Ok, not being totally familiar with Yamaha's earlier offerings from the 60s through early 80's I thought it may be something like that. So I say to him. "Huh, what year is it?" He then replies "oh its a 2005."

At this point I am trying to place a 950cc Yamaha for 2005. Of course I think R1 but nahh. Then I try to remember the cruiser models but am fairly certain that they are 650's and 1100's and the big power twin is like a 1400 or something.

hmmmm. Before I can ask which model I look at him and he says. "Yeah, its an R6." I kind of mutter R6? to myself and am trying to think of how on earth he could have a 950cc R6. I ask him if he has done any mods to the bike. He said, "Yeah, I got all chrome wheels and stuff. Green neon lights under the front to match the paint job". "Oh" I reply and walk to the front of my car to pop the hood. I then asked politely "did you do any engine mods to the bike? " He says. "Yeah, I got a 100 shot of NOS". "its crazy fast." I reply with " I bet" at this point I am certain he is full of poop. I asked again " Its a 950 huh?" He replies quickly "Yep, 950 with NOS". "WOW!" I said. You must have bored the engine to get it to 950cc? He looked at me completely confused. I ask "did you bore out the cylinders to take it from 600cc to 950cc?" Really confused he looks at me and asks "What? huh?" I then state. "Well the R6 is a 600cc bike." He then says "well mine isn't, its a 950." I look at him tapping the last bit of oil out of the quart and am like, uh huh.

I go remove the filler cap from the pump handle to re-rack the nozzle to the pump. I decided to wait a minute to let the newly added oil get to the pan so I could check to see if I needed a bit more. He then says,"Yeah I got it up to 200 this summer on the highway. Everything was a blur! It was scary cause I didn't have my helmet on" At this point I just can't take it any more. I quickly check the dip stick, see that the oil level is close enough and then shut the hood. As I am walking back to my door He says, "Yup the cops were after me and everything but they have to call it off after 120mph and there was no way they were gonna catch me at 200."

I look at him and say, "On your green Yamaha R6 950 with NOS huh?" He looks at me with a big confident smile and says "Yep"

There was so much I wanted to say. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I said "nice chatting, be safe." Got in my car and drove back to the office.

So if any of you guys see a chromed out green R6 that has been punched out to a 950 with a 100 shot of NOS then you have perhaps met this kid.

It must have been the neon lights that allowed the bike to reach such a high velocity.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could have been as nice about it as you.

What was it that kept getting repeated on a few of the group rides I went on this year...

    "You guys ride those bikes?"

WOW ! A 950 Yamaha R6 ! I gotta gets me wunna them things ! 200mph and the cop broke chase because they can't exceed 120mph ! Wow, that is so impressive. I can't wait to have my Kawazuki T7 blinged out so that I can take it to 200mph, without my helmet.

Actually if one were to attempt a helmetless ride at that speed, they should expect to have their face ripped off.

Ok, I have to chime in again. Recenly the dealership I work at hired a new recon guy. An idiot.

One day, while I was working on the old hawk he came up to me and asked if it was mine. I replied yes. He asked where I ride it. I said Loudon. He asked if I race it. I said yes, it's a racebike, no lights, plate or anything like that, duh. He then proceeded to tell me that his uncle raced a Ducati "somewhere up north, probably Loudon.". He told me that he took it up to "about 200something mph, and that was it. He scared himself so badly that he quit racing.". He asked me how fast I've gone on my bike and I said "probably about 130 or so". I then told him that I don't think it's physically possible to come close to 200 on the road course at NHIS. Then he got all pissy, telling me about his "$1200 rear tire that was THIS WIDE(hold your hands about three feet apart). I then said, maybe it was a drag bike, but I've never seen a Ducati hit those speeds(barring MotoGP). The conversation ended when he got mad and said, "well, he did!". I laughed and continued working.

-I've had fuckasses see me pull in somewhere on my TL-R and come tell me they had one when they were 1100's. "...they musta tuned 'em back 'cuz they were so fast..."

-I've had someone on an old (obviously) ZX10 ask me what I had on the TL-R to make it sound so good. I say "...Yosh...", he shrugs and says he's never heard of 'em. I say almost as a question, "...Yoshimura?", he shrugs again and tells me they must be high end stuff to get a bike to sound that good. Then asks, "...can I get 'em for mine? I really like that sound..." Almost at that exact moment a Ducati goes thumping by. The dipshit turns back to me and says, "...damn! He must have those Yuupsha's too!"

-I've actually had a coupla Harley dudes proclaim my TL-R a Harley wannabe! I pulls into some convenience store in the middle of no where. Wunna the dudes walks over and asks if it's a Suzuki. "....um, yip. See the stickers?" Rather puzzled he asks if it's a V-twin. I tell 'im it's an L-twin. As his buddy's walking over, he goes on to tell me how everyone's copying Harleys now. His buddy walks up and says "...is this another wunna those Harley wannabes?"

-When I had my RF900R, I actually got into a rather heated debate with someone proudly declaring that Suzuki never made a 900. I was sitting on it when the argument started. In fact, the argument started when he SAW the 900 emblem on the tailpiece!

-My all time favorite was with my Superhawk. A few folk here may remember an early Stonnerstock. A buddy of mine had just gotten outta prison and brought wunna his block mates up for a quick visit. Upon seeing the Two Brothers exhaust and the Two Brothers stickers on my tailpiece, he exitedly let everyone know that I was running TWO 'race kits' on it!

-The same jailbird also told us all about his CBR900F3 AND his GSX-R 1100 SRAD Slingshot! Naturally, he had to stop riding 'cuz he was just too outta control on 'em!

I feel your pain, Scotty. All too often...

BS Motorcycle owner wanna be experience

Earlier this year I was in a charity poker run for a local kid with MS and I was the only sportbike in a crowd of about 350-400 cruisers and choppers. Surprisingly, no one gave me any shit for my choice in bikes. At one of the stops along the ride, one of the guys in full colors (aces and 8's IIRC) struck up a friendly conversation. Just joking around, he asked me if anyone had made fun of me for not riding a real motorcycle. I just laughed and said "no but if they did, I would race them for pink slips."

The guy was a little surprised and asked me how I could be so sure about winning. I told him that there were no bikes on the ride that could even remotely compete with my Kawasaki. Amazingly enough he correctly identified my motorcycle as being a 1200 and commented that he had a 1500 screaming eagle kit in his bike and it was a lot faster than stock. Seeing that he was starting to feel a little inadequate, I told him I could give him a head start and then blow by him like he was standing still. Once again he asks me how I could be so sure about winning so I asked him how much horsepower his bike was making. He said about 102 and I told him mine dynoed in the 160's on a hot day. He was amazed that a motorcycle could make that much power. I told him that a modern 600 makes more than his 1500 Screaming Eagle. Fortunately our group started moving out so I didn't have to deal with the guy any more.

I think it's amazing how many riders don't have a clue about how powerful modern sportbikes are. I was really hoping he would give me a chance to show him how right I was.
