    Buell ???'s

So what can you tell me about the X-1 lightning and th XB9s? How well do they handle?

So for those who do not know my 94' CBR 900rr is for sale and I've had a couple offers for trades for Buells. My bike and I would have to throw in some cash.

Ummmm if you're thinking this would be a good substitute for an I-4 litre bike ....STOP THINKING

Don't get me wrong they are good bikes. PM or go see EBOOS at the dealership in Auburn. He was offering up demo rides as most Buell dealers do but EBOOS is a good guy and is a member here and also races a buell.

    Re: Buell ???'s

I ride a 2000 M2 (similar to the X1, just carborated, mild cams and conventional forks), and I love this bike. Given the chance, I would choose the XB chassis bike over the tube framed bike. The XB will be lighter and handle better then the X1. The shorter wheelbase may make it seem a little unstable at high speeds (over 100mph), unless you sort out the suspension just right. The X1 will be easier to work on, and have more commonality of engine components with 03 and earlier HD Sportsters. Other then engine components, very little performance parts are still available for tube framed Buells.

Over all, I would choose the XB9S. It's a great bike and there is a lot you can do with it. Seek out mustang on this forum. He has one. Ask him what he thinks of it.

    Thanks for the plug Matt.

Depending on what gear you ride with, and how much you commute in the summer, the heat a lot of the Buells throw off may piss you off. The right side gets REAL hot on a summer day.

I was thinking about a SV650 too, so this not that far of a stretch @ least there both v-twins. And I'm having trouble selling my CBR 900rr.
So I thought if I could trade it for something else and then maybe sell the trade???

I never keep bikes that long, the 900rr is bike number 4 this year.

    Re: Buell ???'s

Had an XB12SS and now an 1125R.... Like Eboos said, the XB get a little interesting over 100mph unless you sort out the suspension. Loved my XB and with the open airbox, Drummer exhaust, and Race ECM it actually ran quite cool compared to stock. I would definitely buy an XB12 again as a second bike, its a hoot in the twisties and w/ the torque avail. doesn't get left behind in the corners by anything. The highway or straights you will get walked, its still a harley twin under there.... The 1125 is another story, same amazing handling, double the motor it seems. Never had any experience with the tubers, though the owners seem to be another breed all there own

Sounds like you need two bikes at all times (... your buddys SV and a litre bike of some kind V-twin or I-4 ... better yet get a tripple just incase you feel stuck in the middle

    Re: Buell ???'s

i'm still going through separation anxiety after selling my '05 XB12S last winter hope to get another one some day but i put a lot of $$$ into mine, dont think i could afford that again. loved everything about it for street riding, especially after all the personal tuning and tweaking. real fun bikes to ride and work on, maintenance is complete cake. these nice evenings i'm really missing the sound and feel of that 1203cc twin with Drummer pipe. lotta soul

eboos is your man, go test ride a few

I think Desire' just emptied your wallet ..... you're such a woman .... kinda like Bladerider97 ..... we just went thru this with him a few months back about race bikes.

if you go thru bikes that quickly what does it matter what you get right NOW. you'll likely change it again before the end of the season ..... Bahhhhhh get a Can-Am SPYDER and SHooosh

    Re: Buell ???'s

Take that WR250 and some cash.

The last Buell I rode was in 2002 so take this with a grain of salt.

It shook like a rubber mounted Harley, the handlebars vibrated at speed like a Harley and it sounded like a Harley. It was manueverable but not "flickable" The best handling Harley I have ever been on but I was VERY happy to get back on my 900ss.

    Well we both ride 900rr's.

The reason I asked about the Buells is because I didn't want to get stuck w/something that sucks big donkey balls in trade. I Buell I have ever rode was a 97' S1 lighting.

Oh and I messed around with this today, kinda fun.
