Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

Just curious here. What was/is the main driving force of our decisions to buy certain makes/models?

    Performance?
    Comforts?
    Fuel Economy?
    Two-up Accomadations?
    Looks?
    Perceived Value For Your Dollar?
    Squid Factor?
    "Awe" Value?

Just wondering what it is that made you decide to get the bike(s) you have. Not looking for any psycho-babble-bullshit. Just looking for personal reasons for buying....

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

i started with the RF, cause it was cheap and i didn;t know what i wanted and it was functionally sound at the time. then i got to liking her, but frustrated with the lack of power in certain situations and two up accomodations sucked.

So now, after a year of riding around with cruisers and sportbikes, and stealing everyone i could to see what i really liked, i found i fell in love the V-twin sounds and power. i have been looking for a 1 liter to better suit my need for power, and also for the more suitable passenger accomodations since my lady is on there fairly often.
This particular Aprilia was very appealing to me cause someone else already put the time and money into the pipes, and its very different!!!
I actually never even see TL's or superchickens... except for with you guys, but i like to be a little different than the rest, (part of why i actually do like the li'l red riding bitch), and no one seems to have this falco, and i think its real pretty, the price was right, and its set up for two and one person riding and oh yea, did i mention yet i think it sounds gorgeous and has the torque and power all over like the way i like it. i already know i cant ride this thing to its limits, i prolly never will be able to either, but its suits my needs, and also my wants.

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

bought a brand new F4i last year, it got stolen 4mos later...i liked it so much, i bought another.

    - my first bike, so it wasn't TOO powerful
    - still fast as a raped ape
    - somewhat comfy
    - Honda reliability
    - Honda fit + finish
    - looks pretty cool (new, at least )
    - sportbike poser value
    - FUEL INJECTION (big selling point for me)
    - she's a fucking beast on the track (didn't find this out till later)

We went up to the 1k for the power. Riding two up 12,000(+) mi/year, I wanted more of a push getting out of trouble situations.

Needed power, acceleration, speed, Oh - Ah factor.

    hmmm, well lets see...

i bought the sv for a number of reasons
    a) bang for the buck... bikes brand new and has a great feel for what i paid for it
    b) didn't want to break my back on a bike with a full on sport riding stance
    c) wanted a whole lot less 'scary' than my last bike (cbr1100xx) so i don't constantly have to fight to keep the front wheel on the ground
    d) wanted a bike that can twist it up when you want to with buckets of low end torque
    e) love the looks (will look even better when i get the lower fairing on)
    d) i am tall and the riding position is pretty comfy on it

i think that about sums up why i got the sv650s, although the TLR is starting to look mighty fine as a second bike

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

Considering, at the time, before business went south, I could afford any bike there was, move some stocks and I had money!
I didn't ride for a couple of years because of the children raising thing. I look at dependability, cost of service, handling, power, fuel requirements....you get the drift.
I had narrowed it down to 3 bikes. The R1, Ducati 996s, and the TLR. The RC51 was actually beat out by a Gixxer 750, but I liked what the "V" twin had to offer, but I wanted the power of a Liter bike.
After some research, it all boiled down to the Tiller. Why?
It's not what it was, it's what it can be. After all the mods were done, it still cost less than the Duc and in my opinion, the low end torque was just something the R1 couldn't beat. I ran 2 strokes, and I was tired of downshifting 3 or 4 cogs, just to make some power, and that's what the R1 needed.
So.....I have the tiller, and I don't regret it in the least bit.
It's more comfortable than the Duc too!

    Easy...$$$

I was in the market for an R1 or ZX-9R back in late '99. The first owner of my bike wanted to unload his ZX-9R with 1200 miles for 6300. SOLD!!

I wanted a blue bike and a 600. I like the way it looked over the other 600s and how flickable it is.

Power wasn't as important to me and I wanted something more comfortable for longer rides

I've come to appreciate the number of parts available on ebay and on the web for the 99-02 R6. I couldn't find anything for my old 2000 SV

    And a 15,500 RPM redline

I got the Superchick cause I love twins, I like the sound I like the narrow look and love the uhhem TOURQE
If everybody didn't tell me that the SVS was too small for me then I probaly would have gotten it, or if they made an SV1000S, you know carbs smooth fast and um well not the TL (nosa, Love the TLS) Anyway I guess it a big carburated twin for me

Got the R6 cause, I wanted a super sport class machine with light handling and a good set of brakes, and a better seat than a 748. Now if the question was what's your next bike I'd have no idea what to get.

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

My current bike is only an F2... I bought it because I always wanted one... it was the first sportbike I "noticed" in high school... kinda what got me into them in the first place... so when I wanted to get a bike I found this and bought it... now I can say I had one...

I'm not a power freak... 84 rwhp is plenty for me... I'm looking now at the 02 Interceptor... I love the look with the undertail exhaust, I'd like a sport tourer... I feel that would fit my riding style better... and I'm a Honda guy... and it's a Honda...

Ummm that's about it.... carry on please....

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

Allways wanted a Ducati, yea I love the bike but wish it had some more hp behind the tire. But on the other hand I went from a Harley to this bike so it was a radical change anyway. I would love to own a Gixxer 1k but I don't think I am ready for a full time bike like that at the moment. A little more learning is in order for me. Remember to know your limits!

    YZF 600R

This is my 1st bike. I did a lot of research before I actually bought it. I wanted something that handled really well and had enough power to give you an adrenaline rush but at the same time not so much power that would get me in trouble(although it could if I really wanted it to). Comfort was a big thing on my "wants" list. I seriously looked at the SV but decided to go with the YZF mainly because of the looks. I wanted a full fairing bike and the SV just didn't do it for me. All in all I think that I made a great decision. I absolutly love this thing.

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

    The Perfect ad

For Sale {insert name} recently laided down cosmetic damage only,, runs great!,,, will sell cheap

I have bought over 30 bikes that fit that discription, some are better than others but I have yet to see any motorcycle I couldn't find something to like about it.. Shit I bet I could beat half the guys out there on some of the old Katanas 600 I have sold. The modern sport bike has changed very little in the last 12 years and you would need a stop watch or be a racer to be able to tell most of the sutle differances between them.. and I just love motorcycles.. well sport bikes anyway..

Re: Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

    << Performance? >>
Not much of an issue with me but i do like something with some ummf!!!

    << Comforts? >>
If i wanted something comfortable i'd go for a ride in my truck..

    << Fuel Economy? >>
I would never buy a bike based on fuel economy...

    << Two-up Accomadations? >>
Even if i had a other half, i still wouldn't base my choice in bike on this. Get ur own fucken bike, women!!
    Looks?

<< Perceived Value For Your Dollar? >>
I'm financially immature so i don't care about this one

    << Squid Factor? >>
Well, being 50% squid and 40% poser, this plays a STRONG part in my bike choices. The very reason i stay with Yamaha's

    << "Awe" Value? >>
I get so many "awe's" with the R7, I get tired of them

Seriously tho, i've always had Yamaha's, have never been stuck anywhere on any Yamaha i have owned (ie: no problems), fit & finish (IMO) is the best of the big 4 (Honda being a strong second). The aggressive looks and styles have always gotten my attention also.
The OW-02 was (still is) my dream bike for over a year when it was first introduced in 1999. Feels good to make one of those dreams come true

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

I'm shallow. I bought both of my bikes on looks alone. I got the GS because I had seen a first generation Bandit 400, liked it and when I was finally able (allowed) to get a bike they didn't make the Bandit 400 no more. The GS looked like it (and was only $3k) so I got that. Then in 1997 I saw a comercial for the new Suzuki sport bike. The TL1000s. That looked very nice. I wasn't in the market so I filed it away. When I was looking a couple of years later I was this close to getting a Duc 750 Monster and I walked into my local 'Zuki dealer and saw "her". Dark green TL 1000s. Used, cheap, (the "now" factor) and filed under "G" for: Gotta!! Now of course I know what I need to ride like I wanna ride. I'm set for now but I still have the Duc itch that needs scratch'in...

Why Do We Buy The Bikes We Do?

    Well,
My wife wants a Ducati Monster, 620 or 750, it's not decided yet. (Her last Bike was a 750)....
The first thing she wants to do is put a pair of "S" Pipes on it..go figure!

Why does she want a Duc? She likes the naked look, plus it's small enough for her to put her feet down! And of course, "The SOUND!"
I know if she could hold the Tiller up, she'd be on that!
