    When buying a new bike

Does anyone know why the dealer claims the manufacturer dictates the price? Aka no negotiations

Re: When buying a new bike

Because they think it will work?

If it's a high demand, low inventory model, dealers have been known to ask for a premium over the MSRP.

If one dealer won't budge, try others. If nobody is budging, then they must be sure they will sell that unit at full price to another buyer.

I also find it interesting to look on eBay or cycle trader to see what dealerships out of the area are advertising.

Re: When buying a new bike

In general, the manufacturer does not, and cannot, dictate the retail price.
The manufacturer does dictate the wholesale price, so of course the dealer isn't going to (and shouldn't) bargain down to where he doesn't make a profit.
On some limited-production specials, I could see the manufacturer requiring that there be no discounts, as a condition of the dealers getting the bikes.
But that should be a rare occurrence.

Find a new dealer, simple as that! There's 12-18% profit in each unit depending manufacturer

I don't think that that is true, check Cycle Trader and I'll bet you'll find other dealers also have the 2013 you're looking for.

I've never paid freight on a new bike. That drives me nuts. You don't buy a cup of coffee, then get an additional charge for the cup it comes in. Freight/destination is a cost of doing business. Without the inventory, they'd have nothing to sell and thus would be out of business. At the very least just factor the freight into the "MSRP".

It sounds like you are in a rush. If you are, you won't get a good deal on it. It's winter. Slow down, do your homework and make a reasonable offer then let them think about it for a month or two.

New it was 12200. Now they advertised it for 8999.00 and then pull the charges stunt claiming its 9720.00. I said no, you are advertising 8999.00. That's when he claims Suzuki dictates it

Then it's not a good deal. Leave them with a standing offer of $9k and your phone number.

True.. I was going to say that.. but I'm screwed if I don't sell mine.. if they would give me a better deal on mine I'd do it.. they are all scammers.. they offered me 3400.00 for mine.. my bike is in excellent condition..

Re: When buying a new bike

Sell yours and you still have 3-4 months to find a deal on one.

If you are in a rush or in a "must" situation, the chances of you getting a good deal plummets dramatically.

Your bike is worth what someone will pay for it, in December.

With 2016 upon us you now have a 9 year old bike with almost 10,000 miles. How many eBay or cycle trader or cl comps have you gotten to check sales price?

A 3 year old Japanese leftover 600 is not even a 9K bike. It's costing the dealer money for it to be sitting. I hope it hasn't had the same half tank of ethanol crap in there since 2012.

Re: When buying a new bike

From what I'm finding on eBay and clist, 6k is a fair price for my bike..
Ya I was surprised they have a couple of 2013.,,they have a 600 and a 1litre as well. I didn't think about the gas.. but if it runs fine then I'm not worried.. if they were smart, they would stabilize all their gas

Re: When buying a new bike

I once saw a tag on a honda that said "price includes delivery" or something like that. It was an official honda tag. The dealer had scribbled over it in magic marker so they could charge their bullshit $400+ "delivery charge".
