Talking Buying Boots- need some help

I'm looking to buy some boots for when I'm riding. I'm looking for something that will be comfortable to walk around in after riding- but also strong enough to keep my ankle from snapping in half.

Somthing simple- no flashy colors/designs. Something I could wear at work- Business casual dress here- jeans, khakis, polo shirts, but no sneakers.

These are nice and affordable. I know he has 2 new boots... a little more casual that he's working on. Cheaper too. All come with armor inside too. Definitely call Chip. He'll help you. Mention Core 6 and he may take care of you.

    Buying Boots- need some help

good old fashion work boots.... I wear wolverines they have a ruberized toe, that is almost a necessity, cause with plain leather, you will eventually wear a hole thruy with your shifter. I bought mine at Red's Shoe Barn. riding boots are made for riding, not walking around all day at work

I've got a coupla pairs of good ol' cheapy Teknic boots. They're just as comfy to walk around in (if not more so) than any workboots I've ever owned...

I've had a pair of Prexports, some Teknics, and a pair of AGV-- all riding boots, all (mostly) black and suitable for "business casual"-- that have been quite comfortable. hell, even my Sidi Sports are OK for an occasional day... and I spend a lot of time at the job on my feet.

the one thing (besides being riding boots) they all had in common? I spent a few bucks on the gel or foam inserts you can get in CVS (the cheapies, not Dr. Scholls)...

well- I sit behind a computer 80% of the day so I'm not walking around all day.
How do riding boots run for sizes- Comparable to most shoes/boots?

yup... like most shoes, THERE ARE NO HARD AND FAST RULES!

different companies size slightly differently... best bet is to try and find some place you can try boots on, first, then order 'em once you've got the size down.

or... buy 'em from some place like NewEnough, where they'll help you determine the size... and have a liberal return policy.

oh... one more thing: lotsa riding boots are made in Italy. hence, Euro sizes... get used to thinking of yourself as "44" rather than "10 1/2".

In my (limited) experience, too damn wide for an average foot! All the ones at new enough were around an D-E width, according to their salesmen. Comfy, but my foot floated in them, which made walking a bit of a chore. I ended up with some cheapy insoles which picked up enough of the slack that I don't really notice anymore.

Other than the size, I really do like my Gaerne Stradas from new enough. Plain black, not flashy, toe looks like a dress shoe but for the shift pad, but plenty of reinforcement for a getoff. I still find it easier to throw a pair of shoes in my tankbag for work though. I can get a pair of sneakers and a spare shield in my LP tankbag without a problem, and it's one of the smallest around. Food for thought...

Oh one more thing, I used to ride in workboots and they were allright but I didn't feel like they had a decent amount of ankle protection, didn't go up as high on my calf as the motorcycle boots, and I couldn't tuck my leather pants into them, which is definitely the safest way to go if you're concerned about such things. Also no laces, which I consider a big plus on the bike, nothing to get looped around a footpeg or caught in a chain.
