Cambridge Police just received 12 BMW motorcycles to replace their old Harleys. And just think, they even saved money going with BMW!

Several of them were at the Max BMW Trackday last Wedsday.

They must have got a sweet leasing deal on the bikes. The town next to me has bikes also. I talked to one of the Officer's, he siad they could get two fully equipped Harleys with ABS for the same money it cost's to lease a Beemer. Any bike,even a Harley is better than a Cage!! Things will get intersting when Honda or Yamaha decides to enter the Police market.

Since when did HD's come with ABS?

The BMW was the main reason why most dept's were switching from HD - the BMW has ABS and HD did not.

And - where would HD even get that kind of tech?

The police that got to take the bikes out to the track are guys I ride with, and they were very very very excited about these bikes, especially going from harleys that after about 60 MPH began to shake. The news reported that by changing to bmw that the dept saved about 35000. i got to see one of these last night and they are about the brightest lights and the loudest sirens that I ever could imagine on a motorcycle. The police officers that were up at track day also all hae street bikes, a gixxer 600, a zx1200 and the last is a honda cbr.... they are sooooo addicted to track day that they are all looking to schedule another on their own bikes.

I have seen the photos of Gixxer1k's and Ninja's all decked out in police garb, but can you imagine if they updated the KZ1000P with a ZRX1200P?

The BMW is a good choice. Great life expectancy (BMW doesn't have an express motor rebuild program, that says a lot), easy to maintain, handles great, quiet, etc. Kudo's to the cops!

ABS is an option on the 06 Police Harleys.
