Love how a road rage incident turns into a full-on immigration debate on NESR (yes, I am guilty also). Is it riding season up there yet?!
I don't get the forceful 'they were brought here' argument. Yes, it's not their fault, and it's their parents fault. But we all bear the cost of bad choices our parents make, morally and financially and legally in one way or another. Do they deserve sympathy and special treatment in the path to legalization via existing legal quotas and processes? Yes, absolutely. Do you just wipe the slate clean and say they are all now legal? No. They are still illegal because the law is black and white.

Yea, mea culpa for derailing the thread.
I don’t think slates should be wiped clean. But path to legalization is extremely difficult for an illegal immigrant. But anyways, are they illegal and breaking laws: yes.

I did not mean to imply you felt that way. Just responding to the idea, and anyone who subscribes to it.
It's a fact, but is it relevant to the incident? Should we mention that the driver has been cited in the past for .... shit what's a non-violent non-moving violation example? He was cited for using an aerosol can in a manner other than directed.

Coworker left the office and was sitting at a red light down the street. A driver swung wide through the intersection hitting his bike and knocking him to the ground. The driver continued on their way. The camera in the intersection did not get the car's plate but did capture the car and driver clearly. The cop staked the intersection the same time for the next couple of days and low and behold saw the car. He pulls over the women who additionally did not have auto insurance (don't recall if she had a license) and subsequently arrests her. Supposedly, the woman was livid because it was Friday and she had to sit in jail over the weekend before being able to see a judge. Ultimately, she ended up with a slap on the wrist and associated fines and sent on her way. The court supposedly did not want to deal with the extra paperwork and expense of addressing her legal status. Coworker had to make a claim through his own insurance to repair the bike.
So, the uninsured car driver got a slap on the wrist, and your friend is out his deductible and most likely lost out on the deal. Uninsured drivers also drive up the cost of insurance for us all.

4 years ago, I was riding my motorcycle home from work and was hit at 5:30 PM by an uninsured, unregistered and drunk driver who ran a stop sign. I woke up 2 days later in the hospital with a broken femur and 4 fractures in my spine and neck as well as a concussion. I was very fortunate to have my health insurance pick up the tab for my rehab, but the guy walked free.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
Hypothetical scenario since kinda relevant-
If you only had to pick one out of the two types of individual: Illegal(no license or reg) and/or uninsured driver who is a competent/aware driver vs a legal DMV registered, insured, licensed driver who is poorly skilled and distracted driver.
Reason for the thought was because today I was driving behind some old lady who was on her phone or doing makeup on the highway. For 10 miles in busy traffic she used all of her lane and plenty of others while crossing over multiple times. When she finally looked up at the road she overreacted with panic brake checks. It stuck in my mind cause I purposely chose to go super slow and just drive a safe distance behind her so she wouldn't hit me.
I'm also baffled that the DMV renewed a coworkers dad who is 92 and getting next week glocoma surgery next week. Did I also mention he drives a big cadillac in Hilton Head, SC.

Split the difference?
Earlier this week got hit from behind by a [legal] visitor from Vietnam. His Vietnamese license was dated 3/18 and his international license a week later. $3,000 damage. Driving Skill Not Found.
About 25% of Bostonians are first generation immigrants not one of whom seems to understand the left lane is faster moving.

I think it says numerous things stating he is an “illegal” like no drivers license, insurance, and registration. Do you think it would have been worded differently before Trump? Maybe, maybe not.

There is an immense difference between the way New Englanders - who are minimally impacted - see this issue compared to Mexican border states like AZ, CA, TX, etc.
What is lost in the “discussion” about “illegals” is first, that people who follow the rules for immigration to the US are getting lost in the shuffle. Secondly, the issue has been kicked down the road by both parties so many times that we now have adult children of illegal immigrants who have been held hostage to the process.
Gerrymandering was invented in Massachusetts and perfected over the last two hundred years so that Congress no longer has to negotiate anything to get re-elected. The broad pragmatic middle has been marginalized.
The incident is still of great concern for road motorcyclists, despite the unwholesome nature of both participants.
There is no outside influence that would make me think different when I read a headline that says “illegal immigrant.” I work in the trades and have meet and befriended the like. I’ve meet the most nice and peaceful people and have seen their care for others. I’d trust my life with some. Seeing any angry immigrant usually means “Americanized.” There is always a bad apple. And there is legal and illegal. Dude should have shook off the spastic motorcyclist.
