    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I have it and it's from riding bikes twisting the throttle. Does anyone else experience this.

My thumb middle and fore fingers are numb. It hurts like hell.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions other than surgery or the stupid brace all the time?

Anyone have luck with the cotisone shot?

    Stretch

Camille had the same problem. The doc gave her some stretches to do with her hand and that seems to help. I will show you next time.

    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Go see someone who knows what they are talking about. A Doctor!

Since I work on the friggin computer all day I know a lot of people who have had this problem. There is plenty of controversy & argument, lots of people say the surgery is bogus, etc.. I've seen people doing some pretty weird stuff to try and beat it, as well as wearing braces all the time. There are also people who say it can come back after the surgery!

How much are you riding? Something is wrong with your conditioning + riding position if you are getting this problem from normal riding... are you riding like a thousand miles a week or something? Are you overweight/out of shape and putting way too much weight on your hands? Is your fork preload set too high?

What else are you doing? Working on the computer? Lifting weights a lot? Jackhammer operator? Mountain bike racer? Lots of things can cause this moreso than motorcycle riding.

I'd tend to be surprised if the doctor said it was actually from riding. Chances are there is some adjustment you can make to your life that will make it go away with rest, etc..

There is plenty of info on the web if you search google as well. Since computer geeks get this problem more than anyone else, there are plenty of web pages about it.

    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I am going for the cortisone shot this afternoon.

I have been to the doctor. They put me in the brace first, no luck. Then VIOX to take down the swelling, no luck. Stretches, no luck.

It will go away then I will rip a wheelie and yank on the bars strain the wrist it swells up wallah it's back.

I am on the pc all day and that's how I got it. Riding aggrevates it. Any sort of repetitive motion will cause it.

I want to avaoid the surgery because they say 6 months to fully recover and there is a chance it will come back.

I just wanted to know if anyone else that rides also has it.

I have it a little, i'm on computers all day too.

Changing the position often helps, somedays I right side mouse, some days left; height adjustment in my chair- it's like a drafting seat, and several different bikes.
Maybe try standing on the pegs before you rip on the bars, just like 1/4 of the time, other times you could sit way back on the pillion and rip it.
Cort steriod will mask it and help heal, problem is you feel great during this time and tend to do more damage.

Good luck man.. sounds like you have it bad.

I have had flareups from the computer... riding will make my wrists sore but never bad like the computer. Try out a bunch of computer keyboards and mice... I get it bad from the mouse actually, not the keyboard. There is only one type of mouse that I can use all day with no pain.

I'd do what the doctor says, but go on vacation for 2 weeks where there are no computers or bikes while you follow the doctors instructions. Go sit on the beach and drink or something.

Only problem with that is cortisone only hides the injury not heal it. When you don't feel the pain you will tend to push the injury site more and cause more damage.

KB, the naprosen the doctor gave me worked pretty good. I think I am going to ask for the never-ending supply now! He also told me to rest it up, stop lifting, and to try the brace. I said eff the brace.

So go from there try getting an anti-inflamatory!

My wife had it in both wrists and tried everything mentioned here. She ended up getting BOTH of 'em operated on about 6 years ago and hasn't had a problem since...

Perhaps it's not from riding your bike but rather the snowmobiling incident you had a few years ago.....
You probably just never healed properly.

Welp, I developed CTS from my engineering co-op job, I spent several hours on a laptop each day, with no wrist support. I now use the foam wrist support pads for my mouse and keyboard. CTS is very annoying and painful sometimes. My jobs will require computer use until I retire, maybe 40 more years

I have never had any problems on a motorcycle though.

Wrist support pads, the foam or gel type that you can buy in Staples work excellent. Highly recommend them.
