CHICKEN STRIPS: the front tire chapter.

    So... simple question...

Do the chicken strips on your front tire match the rear?

    Reason being...
Went for a long needed clover leaf practice session w/ my riding buddy titled "Mex".
We got our chick strips down to about this big--> | | full size.
Sucky part... my front strips are about an inch, his are same as the rear.
We have the same tires: Pirelli Diablo's
My bike: Fightered 2004 Zuki Bandit 1200 with 04 honda 954 front end & forks
His bike: 05 kawi 636 ninja.

I'm upset. Same chicken strips in the rear, but he has none in the front.
Also, since i fightered my bike... my new top speed is only 153indicated Used to have an indicated 169. Gotta get the turbo project done!

    Nope.

I wouldn't be that upset if I were you. There are many factors playing in to what you're seeing.

Tire pressures, difference of bikes, rider style, suspension settings, rider weight...the list goes on.

Re: CHICKEN STRIPS: the front tire chapter.

both! Front and rear.... more so the rear.

Of course that kinda has something to do with stuffing a 150 rear tire on a 3" wide rim though I could be dragging my fairings & it won't get rid of the chicken strips on my tires. See here - http://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2006%5C0...69134-full.jpg

The size of the chicken strips doesn't just tell you the person's lean angle. They also have to do with body positioning, rim width, tire width & profile and also, from what I've heard, how much counter steering you're using at max lean. (for the front)

basically, it don't really tell ya shit.

If I meet someone & they have big chicken strips then I know they're probably (but not always) either inexperienced, cautious on the street, or a combination of both. Whatever ends up being the case, that's fine by me.

If I meet someone & they have NO chicken strips (front or rear) then I know they're probably (but not always) either track day riders, or ride too fast for the street, or ride too fast for their ability (ie, have bad body positioning), or any combination of the three. One combination (too fast for the street & too fast for their ability) doesn't set well with me at all.

So basically, unless I know they ride on the track, I'm more comfortable riding w/ someone that has a little bit of chicken strip, assuming they're running stock tire sizes on stock width rims cuz at least I KNOW they won't be pushing the pace beyond what's reasonable in the corners.

Pete's right. Anyway, if you rode a gixxah you'd be faster.

Counter-leaning a bike at parking lot speeds can scrub in the entire width of a tire's tread surface. Then what happens? Chicken tenders?

Does the profile of the front tire match the profile of the rear tire? Are both tires tasked with the same job & loads?

Run your tires at 8 PSI, then do some tight figure 8's. All gone!

...a much more important measurement is the size of your penis. seriously. how big is it?

and not length...diameter. thats the real measure of how good a cloverleaf conquering fighter you are...

is it this big | | (Actual size) or more like this

    |_________________________________________________________________________| (Actual size)

If its small like the first one try wearing less gear. Maybe come to NH where its legal to do stuff like this without a helmet...

Try passing cages on the cloverloops on the outside ... when you lowside on a decreasing radius ramp mid-pass ..... deffinately be able to scrub in the front. You might even get to scrub in your Ti - knee pucks .... "Sparkin, good times"

With every street bike I've owned, the strips on the front tire have always been larger than the ones on the rear.

sorry about your top speed loss. thats the price for being naked i'll admit i loved making high speed bonzi runs but it sucks on a bike with little to no fairing.

+1 I think this is possibly the squidliest "serious" thing i've ever read on NESR haha

were you wearing a helmet? if not....try it, the weight of the helmet when your leaning off your bike valentino style will pull your body and the bike towards the ground for greater lean angle, thus eliminating chicken strips.

hey sherlock, you didn't cover all ground on other side. what if the street rider who has no strip left because they scrub it off at some remote location but they're as cautious as you on busy roads and they dont do track for whatever reason? certainly possible.

My fronts have some chicken strips, but my rears dont. Even the track bike fronts, where I really lean it compaired to the street, have chicken strips.....

that's why I included the phrase - "... then I know they're probably (but not always)..."

which brings us back to the part where I said "basically, it don't really tell ya shit."

i had no chicken strips on my left side and next to nothing on my right just from street riding - front tires always do have some though, a 120/70 front w/ a 180/55 rear doesnt allow

yeah, what of it? you nancies, guess pete wont ride with lil ole denno? you liar!
