    chip off the ole tank

aight, i have a TINY fuckin paint chip in my gas tank... unfortunately it's down to bare metal & i didn't see it till it started to rust.

what's the best way to take care of this & minimize cost & further damage?

anyone know someone that can help me out? i'm not a paint man

or just touch it, if it's a chip - you probably can't see it if your thumb is on it.

Either that or put a band-aid on it and tell people you ride with Nelly.

Clean out the rust, and even tho it is a wild color, I am sure there is a fingernail polish real dam similar to fill in the color.

But otherwise, I think somestrangeguy summed it up.

Rust is the result of a chemical reaction with the oxygen in air. So to stop rust, you either need to chemically treat the gas tank with a reducing agent, or cover it with something so it's not exposed to air.

When I had a vintage dirtbike, I found that the proper way to deal with rust is to:
    -sand/brush off the flakes
    -apply a deoxidizing/reducing agent
-sand the surface rust until it's all gone, and all you have is metal
-use bondo/fiberglass to fix any surface imperfections
    -prime entire piece, sand more
    -paint, sand more
-clear coat, sand more, polish and wax

But all that work doesn't weigh up to a tiny ding.

So I suggest removing the visible rust, lightly sand down to metal, applying a deoxidizing/reducing agent, then just cover it all up with touch-up paint.

Obviously, we all want it to look like factory paint, but will you deal with touch up paint?

of its tiny just put some touch up paint on it. Depending on where it is put a tank protector or bra over it to cover it too.

dude, just ignore it... its a battle scar.

what, did you actually think bikes have resale value?

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

Get rid of it. The bike will never run right. Listen to Mark and buy an R6. Or you could just put some racers duct tape on it and say it adds 20 more hp to the wheel.
